Hi Everyone

I am new to the forum. Although I have been lurking for some time now and just reading and getting informed about the entire migration process. This is truly a helpful forum and nearly anything one wants to know or is concerned about you can find here.

I have been considering for a while whether to immigrate and to which country, but my boyfriend (Petri) has decided it needs to be Aus. (as the weather is great and similar and they are fairly big on sport = cycling), besides we know a few people there too.

I am an Information and Knowledge Management Specialist. I have a BIS degree and Honours in Information and Knowledge Management and a BCom (Hons) in Informatics and I finishing my MCom in Informatics in October. My boyfriend has a BTech in Sport and Exercise. We currently live in Pretoria.

We are planning to leave by the end 2009.

Hi Charlene!

You guys sound a lot like us. We've also decided on Aus as my hubby's quite keen on cycling and running. (He's currently training for the Argus.) He's doing his MBA next year, so we're only applying probably around March 2009. Hopefully we'll have our visa's by the end of 2009, beginning 2010.

Have you guys thought of where in Aus you might like to settle down in?

The worst part I think is waiting to get this year over so we can apply. Am planning a camping trip to Home Affairs to apply for all our certificates though, so that should be exciting!

Good luck with your journey and welcome to the forum!

Hey Michelle

Yes well, Petri's entire life is cycling. He currently cycles for TCS I am sure you should've seen them on supercycling before. He is training for the Giro del Capo and the argus is the last day of the tour. and in his words "one of these days I'll be cycling and training with Robbie McEwen" ;)

Well, I am thinking about going to Brisbane. But I see there are a lot of jobs in my direction Brisbane but more in Sydney. So I guess should I get a job it will be there where the job takes us.

Regarding Home Affairs we have been fortunate that in Pretoria they opened a branch in Akasia which (according to SA standards) are relatively efficient. We applied for a renewal of Passport last week Thursday and in total it took us 1 hour to get everything signed, fingerprinted, paid for and loaded on the system, I was very VERY impressed, as this NEVER happens in Africa.

Thanks for the weelcoming I'm sure we will be chatting a lot.

So leer ons almal.

Hello, and welcome!

We're not that far down the line ourselves, having chosen Australia for the fantastic atmosphere. I spent three weeks in Melbourne in June 2006 and I couldn't get over the "peaceful energy" that permeated everything. Before I had gone there, we would probably have picked Australia for the climate. Now, the climate is just a bonus. It's that "vibe" I want to experience again! :ilikeit:

All the best with your adventure!

Mark

Hi Charlene (and Petri),

Welcome to the forum, and all of the best to you two.

I also believe in going to smaller, out of the way Home Affairs offices, as they can get you sorted and out of the door so much quicker. We went to Cullinan's HA yesterday, and in 15 minutes were in, paid, and out again when we dropped off our application forms for unabridged birth and marriage certs.

Strange thing was - the lady said "Come back in 1 week or 6 weeks and you can pick them up". I asked for repeats, confirmed that this was what I'd heard, and still do not fully comprehend what 1 week or 6 weeks means. (Been in Africa for years, born on it, but this does not necessarily mean that I will be able to translate all things!)

Why don't you join the Pretoria Coffe Club on 23 March at the Irene Country Lodge?

Cheers,

TereMel

Thank you for the invitation. So far as I can see there are no races or anything happening on that day. I would love to come, I think it will be great. Is it a ladies club or may then men join?
