After reading the quote below I went further back and read this thread, well most of it!

So obviously you decided to pack it in NT, sorry that it didn't work out, and thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

"Maybe it's not meant to be? Don't be so hard on yourself. Did you know that most of the things that people worry about will never happen. The whole world is concerned about the global depression, what can you do other than live your life, and enjoy every day to the fullest.

I am returning to SA in 2 weeks to organise my move back from OZ to Joburg. It's not all sunshine & roses over here you know. This little 'excercise' has cost us at least R500K, in the cost of the move, and the money we lost when we sold half our stuff at rock bottom prices just to get out...

I have never been so unhappy in my life as the time I have spent here in OZ. So count yourself lucky that you live in SA, its a great country.

NT"

Hi NT

Just interested to know if you went back to SA or are you still living in Australia.

Thanks, Jill

Oooh. Don't know if I should join the 'discussion', which is now far off topic, or not. This is why I don't frequent Saaustralia so much any more - threads that end up in name-calling, pettiness and people trying to pull each other to pieces. Would have been funny if it weren't for the fact that all of us on this forum are real people with real problems and our own opinions.

Aaaaanyway. Yesterday my friend and I went to Woolworths to buy stuff for supper. We bought $7 of lamb meat on special (more than a kilo, not prime cuts), tinned tomatoes, potatoes (horribly expensive!!), tinned beet, greenbeans, plus some other stuff and I payed just over $20. We ate A LOT, still have some meat left over for a next meal, and we were 6 people. I noticed that the house brands are between 30 and 50 % cheaper than the name brands. It also seems like canned veggies are cheaper than frozen or fresh ones. We bought a 24pack of Cokes for $15 at Big W. And I discovered Sam's warehouse, where stuff are cheaper than in SA even if you convert it to rands. Overall, some things are more expensive than in SA, others are cheaper. I think that if you are earning dollars, food won't be one of your biggest expenses if you don't try to eat like you're royalty. Oh, and gemorskos (junkfood) is really cheap and readily available...

The people - most people that we met were very friendly and helpful, and of course there were a couple of people who were rude or sour, as well!

I also like the fact that if I want to study a Nursing Degree come 2011, the Government will pay 75% of my course fees...
