Guest May
or is everyone waiting for a facilitator and venue? I have not been to one before but am happy to assist. Cannot let the Durbanites have all the fun! Whose interested? and who has any ideas? Unfortunately my house is a little on the small side. Please PM. Annemi
Hi May,We are also in the process of making the final decision and we are leaving for Perth in Oct for our LSD. I am so keen to go and would love to meet up with other people in "our situation". I see you also live in Randburg...so we can choose a well known venue like Lifestyle? Just a suggestion. You are welcome to come to our house as well...lots of space! YOu can PM me if you want to discuss things like dates and times etc.
Lisa T
Hi Annemi & MayPity you guys are not closer to Durban, because our get togethers are so nice! Great people too!Anyway you should just start something in JHB and post it on the forum. You'll be surprised how many people would be interested in going if you just formalise it properly with a venue, date and time.On another note, Annemi, we are also going to Perth in October on our LSD for 2 weeks. We leave on 6 October and return on 21 October. As a matter of interest when are you guys going? We've got an old army friend of my husband that has lived there for about 8 years now and he's promised to organise a few get togethers with their cirlce of friends (many expats too) as we'll be catching the end of the world cup rugby. If you're there over a similar time, we could maybe hook up for a day? Just PM me if you want more details.CheerioLisa Edited August 18, 2007 by Lisa T

GarNik
Hi All,We are in Edenvale - and it would be great to get a Joburg Coffee Club going - we are off to Perth for our LSD in December. Look forward to meeting fellow Aussie Wannabees.RegardsNikki
Steedies
Good MorningWe have about 6 groups of people in JHB who are keen on a coffee club! We are all scattered around the place so will just have to agree on a central location- if that is possible- and then arrange to meet. I am happy to make the arrangements but need input from everyone on what we should do. To give me some idea, will need to gauge the following: kids - who has them and should we arrange a venue to cater for them? do we arrange a get together in a restaurant or should we rather arrange an outing to Zoo Lake etc (problem with parks in JHB is that they are not what they use to be). Alternately, I think either May or Anemi suggested getting together at their house? Ideas very welcome and then we can start working towards a firm date.ThanksBelinda
Lynettej
Hi all,That's a great idea. We are in Lambton and would also like to meet some people moving to Sydney. ( Hope to fly out by Dec/Jan )RegardsLynettej
Annemi
Hi Everyone,Sorry, sorry, sorry... I have been so quiet but it has been quite a hectic week here for me and I have not given the coffee club or get-together any thought. Glad to see the group is growing bigger. Sho, if I think of the next few weeks, we are hardly here but I am going to talk to my husband tonight and see whether or not we can maybe have the "club" here at our place if you all feel it is not too out of your way. We live in Randburg and really easy to find plus we have ample (safe) parking space and a very child friendly garden which is probably easier with kids. Please give me some dates which will suit you and we can take it from there, beacause I know this time of the year can get so busy. Hope to hear from all of you soonAnnemi
Guest May
Hi All,Lets see if Annemi can accommodate us all, numbers were a bit slow initially but I think once a venue and a date is established that is when everyone starts commiting themselvesAlternatives so far we have1. Private room at Lifestyle, subject to availibility and if there is supervision for the kids on the playground2. A braai at Zoo Lake / the Zoo/Emmerentia Dam3. Norscot Recreation Centre (Fourways), has playground and sit down restaurantI am not sure what everyone's financial constraints and preferences are so maybe something like a bring and braai or plate of eats will suit everyone's pocket.Perhaps the weekend after the JHB EXPO so the 22/23 September. Annemi
Me again! My husband said it is fine to have the "club" meeting at our home. Our garden almost looks like a playground thanks to my engineer husband and if the kids bring bikes, we have a double panhandle for them to cycle in. But it is still your choice if you want to come this way. We are very close to Lifestyle Garden Centre if it gives you an indication of where we are. We are here over the long weekend (suggested by May) although many people might be away. The only other date we are here (considering it might be held on a Sunday afternoon) is: 2 Sept...I take it many might be at the expo on the 15/16th. We leave for Perth on the 12th Oct for a week, so we can only accommodate you on the above mentioned dates before we go. But still feel free to make use of another venue if you think it will be better. Keep me postedAnnemi
GarNik
Hi All,My husband and I live in Edenvale and have two children - Nine and Five. Would love to get together and will try and make any date that is suggested. We will be attending the Aus Expo on 15th, then my husband is leaving to climb Killamanjaro leaving 16 to 23rd September, but is back for the public holdiay on the Monday (24/9), but I would be prepared to come on my own, if the agreed date falls over the time he is away.Kind regardsNikki

pietman
Hi thereWe can possibly make the 2nd - as long as it is in the afternoon, we can leave after Church Service the morning. We have no issue to travel from Alberton to West Rand. We cannot make the 22nd - flying to Cape Town for a holiday in SA with our parents before we leave in Mid October.Where is the expo on the 15/16?Pietman

Annemi
Hi everyone,Sorry to disappoint you but we now have to go to a charity day at my husband's work on the 2nd Sept so this date will no longer suit us. Typical of this time of the year, weekends are just so busy and now we don;t have one weekend "free" before we go. So I hope someone out there will take over and still organise a get-together soon and that you will all enjoy it. Have a wonderful week!Annemi
Guest May
Hi All,Sorry to disappoint as well, I am keen but have run out of time to facilitate and find a venue. September is an absolute nightmare, maybe something closer November? Help!May
zoot
Hi all, seems like everyones lives are just so hectic at the moment to fit in yet another function like the coffee club BUT there is the Aus Expo this month which a lot of forumites have indicated they will be attending. How about we organise an informal type get together at the expo. I am sure there will be somewhere to get a cup of coffee/tea etc. May give people a chance to network, chat etc. Perhaps we could set a time say 12h00 on Saturday which would give people a chance to meet with exhibitors first and then grab something to eat/drink or else meet first and go on to speak to the exhibitors after. Then when people have more time (I think November was suggested) something more formal could be arranged. Only thing is how would we identify other forumites. Any suggestions?? JayJay
Hi Everybody,I think Zoot has quite a good solution. I'll surely try to make the appointment, I must just know where and when.GroeteJJ
JayJay
Hi Almal,Seems to me that the JHB come-together as died in silence - probably 'cause the Expo wasn't as good as expected. I know it is a very hectic time of the year, but we have to keep it alive. Maybe after the holiday season in January or should we try to split it up - East Rand, JHB and West Rand? Any suggestions?GroetnisJJ
