FromCapeTown
Hi,We are a family of four from Cape Town. Our kids are 3 and 6. We are interested in moving to either Sydney or Melbourne, largely because we are just fed up with wondering when violent crime is going to hit our family. We have already got our passports, unabridged birth certificates and marriage certificate (what a nightmare). Now we want to get my husband's architecture degree assessed. We are having a slight problem in that the powers that be will only accept a cheque from an Australian bank, or a money order from the Post Office. How the hell do we go about that? TheBs
Welcome to the forum!! You will find a wealth of info here.We have recently sent off our Trade Assessment. We went to our local Absa with the print out showing the amount and to whom it must be paid and they issued an "Australian cheque" for the amount required and debit the rands from our account. Antoinette
The banks here give you a bankdraft which is in Australian dollars and s drawn against a bank in Australia. The terminology bank draft is foreign to other countries but they do accept it.

starfish
Hi guysWelcome to the forum. You will find plenty of assistance, info and moral support here. Well done for getting your stuff from Home Affairs. You may also want to book an IELTS test for your husband (and possibly yourself) as this will almost certainly be asked for, and there is quite a long waiting list.Regards,Scott
Rodz
Hi and welcome!Just be ware, I made enquiries and it takes 4 working days to get a bank draft, I'm with FNB Table View. They also charge a commission.good luck!I am also with FNB but i went into ABSA and paid cash and got it within the hour. All the other banks told me i had to wait a couple of days except ABSA and do exactly as TheB's pointed out. I had to take them proof of the amount that was required and to where it will be going. I used that first part of the TRA application form.

FromCapeTown
Thanks everyone for the info. We will get hold of ABSA and see what we can do. Did you tell them it was for immigration purposes as they are really touchy about that these days? Although I suppose it is rather obvious.
