For the short stay (valid for up to 5yrs, 3 month max stay) you need a letter from the company inviting you, letter from employer here and a few other things (all detailed in appl form). It takes about 10 days to get this visa. See: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/business/456/index.htm for more detail. You do not need police clearance for this visa type.For the long stay (valid for up to 4 years) you need to go through an elaborate process. The company needs to apply and sponsor you with lots of requirements on them and you also need to process an application. See http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/index.htm. I am just worried that the company wants my husband to start working & then we are still waiting for the clearance...
