SkillSelect Invites - April 2022 SC 189 and 491 Invitation Round

The SkillSelect Invites 21 April 2022

As with other recent rounds of invitations there are comparatively low numbers of individuals being invited (although an increase since previous quarters) and generally invites are being made to specific occupations/onshore applicants.

The Dept. of Home Affairs web site states 'The Government is closely monitoring migration and visa settings to ensure they are consistent with public health measures, are flexible and do not displace job opportunities for Australians, so that Australia can effectively respond to the immediate and subsequent impacts of COVID-19. As such, targeted invitation rounds have occurred since May 2020.'

NB: Hopefully a number of factors coming together may now see an increase in numbers of SkillSelect Invitations.

• the international borders have reopened
• there is now a new government in place and it will be interesting to see if they will continue with these smaller batches of invitations or whether, given the above, they will increase the invitation numbers
• the new Migration Year starts in July

April 2022 round of invites:

- 189 Visa Invites: 1000 x 189 visa invitations were issued. The points score required was 85+ (deeming date 05/2020).

- 491(Family Stream) Visa Invites: 500 x 491 visa invitations were issued. The points score required was 65+ (deeming date 01/2022).

- ProRata Occupations - the department advise no pro rata occupations were invited during the 21 April 2022 round..

 

Please Note: As above invitations are currently not being issued in the same way as previously (previously invitations were made to people with the highest points score). Since May 2020 the government has been selecting specific occupations aimed at assisting with the governments aim to assist their Response to Coronavirus.
