Our Visa has eventually been granted. (56 months)    It has been a long wait but at least now the pressure is off.    We have requested a Covid Travel Waiver from our agency and will register on the repatriation travel site.   Would anyone know what the cost for the quarantine would be should we be able to get a flight.    Apparently the waiting list is long, but we not too concerned as there is a lot to do this side.

Fees for quarantine NSW

The fee is a fixed amount that contributes towards the overall costs of quarantine incurred by NSW Government.

  • You will not be charged more if you are required to stay in quarantine longer than 14 days.

Travellers will be charged $3000 for one adult.

Fees for additional occupants are

  • additional adults: $1000 each
  • children under 18 years of age: $500 each
  • child under 3 years of age: no additional cost.

All charges are in Australian dollars.

Example calculations

  • A group or family of 2 adults and 2 children (over the age of 3) in one suite or apartment would pay $5000.
  • A group or family of 2 adults and 4 children over the age of 3 would pay $6000.

In QLD it is $135 per room per night plus $64 per adult for meals per day and $32.50 per child (3 years and over).  Children under 3 does not pay for meals.  You cannot have your meals fee waived - you pay it wether you're eating or not.

In WA it is $180 per room per day plus $60 per additional person (6 years and over)

In Victoria the cost is covered by the government.

In SA it is the same as in NSW (see previous post)

In NT it is $2500 per person. Family rate is $5000 (2 or more persons in the same family).  If you need to extend your quarantine beyond the 14 days due to a positive covid test, the fee is $1750 per person or $3500 per family.

In TAS is is $2800 per person. Additional adults are $1000 each and additional children (3 years and over) are $500 each. Maximum cap of $4800 per family.

In most states you are able to apply for a fee exemption after you've received your invoice.

The categories under which you can apply to have your fees waived or reduced are on the basis of:

Financial hardship: To be granted an exemption on the basis of financial hardship, an applicant must provide evidence that they are either having difficulty meeting their current financial obligations, or that a requirement to pay the fees would cause them financial hardship.

Compassionate circumstances: This category would apply where a person needs to travel for compassionate reasons, for example, needs to travel to provide care for a friend or relative, an end of life visit or to attend a funeral.

Medical treatment: Where people are eligible for assistance under the Tasmanian Government’s Patient Travel Assistance Scheme due to needing to travel interstate for medical treatment that cannot be provided in Tasmania, they will receive an automatic waiver of hotel quarantine fees.

Other exceptional circumstances: These might include circumstances where a person is required to travel to attend a court case or has another important reason to enter the State.
