Rossen
Hi all, so its time to do my SARS tax return and I'm unsure whether to say that I ceased to be an RSA tax resident during the last financial year or not when filling out my details on the efiling site? Technically I am now a tax resident of Australia since I moved here last year on a 189 visa. Does the "Mark with an "X" if you ceased to be a resident of the RSA during this year of assessment." tick box on the ITR12 form require one to do a financial immigration? If I tick the check box I am no longer able to calculate my tax return... I would prefer not to deal with any RSA institution ever again and I have the feeling that if I tick the check box SARS will find any and all ways to mess with me and my returns which are not a small amount. LM17
Residency for tax purposes and financial immigration are not linked. You are correct as you are now based in Aus you are no longer a tax resident in SA - however you have no obligation to ever financial emigrate if you don't want to. As for ticking the box or not ..thats up to you... Edited July 3, 2019 by LM17

LM17
hi -- still "pending" some calculations on their side , the are apparently waiting for a directive (that they issues to Allan Gray before they paid my Prov fund out....) they seem pretty clueless to be honest -- suits me fine as I owe a small refund as per my workings 😉
