Hidden Treasures Off the Beaten Track

We live just over an hour's drive away from the Blue Mountains and we've been there many times. This time we decided to go to the hidden spots not usually visited by tourists and what a wonderful experience! At most of these spots, hubby & I were the only human beings for miles! No tour buses, no-one spoiling the view - not even a sound other than the birds!

One of these spots is a glow worm tunnel. It is a 35km dirt road drive (which takes about one hour because of the bad road - even with a 4X4). Then a 40 minute bush-walk. The tunnel is an old mine tunnel (dark, wet, uneven) and is so long that for a while, you can not see either end, leaving you in total darkness with millions of glow worms against the tunnel walls! It feels like you're in the middle of the milky way - absolutely breathtaking! On the other side awaits a tropical forest scene with ferns, palms and a mountain stream. On our way back, we saw quite a few kangaroos hopping across the field and into the forest.
