Beanie
Hi everyone. We are leaving for Sydney in 3 to 6 months time. We have started researching schools. We have 2 8 year old boys (twins) and a 5 year old boy. The twins are currently in grade 2 at St Stithians College. We were initially looking at private schools in Sydney, but it looks like we will struggle to get in - they have a similar situation to SA where you need to register your kids at birth in order to get a place! I will get them in the queue for now and hopefully they will get places later. For now, we need to look at public schools. I have no idea where to start (apart from checking the Naplan ratings, etc). Can anyone recommend a public primary school in the north west area, anywhere between Wahroonga and the City? Or perhaps a semi-private Christian school (not Catholic)? LM17
Hi Beanie With schools there are a number of things to consider: Cost: If you are on PR – then public schooling will be free, catholic you will pay but it is normally affordable, Private can vary from sort of affordable to extremely pricey. If you are on a sponsored visa you will pay for public as well. Location : Public schools are zoned and in many cases are better that private or semi-private schools (you also get elective public schools…) Anyway due to the zoning property process around these “elite” public schools are very high Catholic, Christian or private is not zoned but you don’t want to be driving up and down in Sydney traffic each day. My advice, choose a good suburb and the public/catholic schools on that area will be great , especially at primary schools level. (PS the north west area you describe do have good public schools so you can’t really go wrong) Then later when you boys get to high school reassess based on where you live finances etc. Good luck and should if you have any more questions. Riekie
Honestly you won't go wrong with whatever school you choose in that area. Don't overthink it.
