For mattresses I would rather buy at Dreamland (no prices online though) or Super-Amart. I would increase the price for the queen base, mattress, bed linen and pillows closer to $1000-$1500 and the single bed etc. closer to $600-$1000. You could get away with something cheaper if you buy a bed frame and just a mattress as the bases look more expense. not sure what dining table and chairs you looked at, but bare in mind that it could be flimsy and quite small for that price. The rest of the prices seems similar to what we were looking at in store, also look at BigW as the prices for some items are really good especially if there is a sale on. The 3/2 seater might not be super comfy for that price, but should be good for a start. Super Amarts prices for lounge furniture also looked good but didn't really try it out... Hope this helps. ChrisH
Not sure how true this is, but I've heard that Ikea beds are not a standard size so you have to buy linen from them if you bought the bed there. Ikea is actually pretty expensive considering that you're still only getting flat pack furniture. Not sure where you're ending up in Australia, but in Brisbane, there is a monthly furniture warehouse sale. All the retailers send their excess stock to one warehouse and they sell it there for a reduced price. I'm sure there will be something similar in each city.
RedPanda
And don't forget GumTree. It's really good in Australia.
