I would suggest that you speak to an agent with experience in this skillset. I did google it and found the following:

http://www.vetassess.com.au/Portals/0/Downloads/qualification_assessment/ManagementConsultant.pdf

Job Description

Management Consultants assist organisations to achieve greater efficiency and solve organisational problems.

Areas of advice may cover areas including:

 Strategy

 Finance

 Human resources

 Information technology

 Operations

Management Consultants usually work as independent consultants providing professional expertise and advice to various organisations, for a consultancy fee. They are usually employed by a management consulting firm. Management consultants provide external advisory services for client organisations requiring objective advice and assistance relating to business improvement, change of management and operations with the aim of meeting the organisation’s long-term purposes and objectives. The consultancy process involves identifying and assessing a problem or analysing a specific area of an organisation, reporting on findings and formulating recommendations for improvement.

Management consultants spend most of their time working on projects across a range of industries ranging from financial services to real estate, health care, education and government. Graduates generally join consulting firms as analysts whereby they are involved in field research and analysis of strategic and operational business issues to support more senior consultants in the provision of their services. In addition to conducting research and analysis of business issues, senior management consulting roles can be expected to have greater autonomy in contributing to a project’s success and be responsible for delivering projects and selling the services of the management consulting firm to clients.

Requirements for VETASSESS Skills Assessment

Management Consultant is a Group B occupation.

Group B occupations require a qualification which is assessed as comparable to the educational level an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor or higher*. If the qualification is in a highly relevant field to the occupation, then one year of highly relevant, post-qualification employment is required. This must be within the past five years. If the qualification is not in a highly relevant field, three years of highly relevant, postqualification employment is required. This must be within the past five years.  this is reduced to two years if there is an additional qualification at least at AQF Diploma level in a highly relevant field. If employment is not post-qualification, then five additional years of relevant employment are required. This is in addition to one year of highly relevant employment within the past five years. *This includes qualifications assessed at AQF Diploma Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level. A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome.

Employment

Pre-qualification employment can be considered for this occupation.

Tasks include

 providing advisory services to business leaders (e.g. senior managers and chief executives) about their organisation for the development of objectives, strategies and plans aimed at achieving customer satisfaction and the efficient use of client organisations' resources

 analysing and evaluating current systems and structures of the organisation and where required, advising on business restructures and turnarounds

 directing clients towards more efficient organisation and developing solutions to organisational problems

 discussing business and organisational shortcomings with clients

 preparing and recommending proposals to revise methods and procedures, alter work flows, redefine job functions and resolve organisational problems

 assisting with implementing approved recommendations, issuing revised instructions and procedure manuals, and drafting other documentation Additional tasks

 ensuring that assigned business analysis activities are conducted within agreed timeframes and cost parameters, ensuring that identified solutions provide efficiencies in business

 conducting gap analysis on clients’ operating model and business processes to identify opportunities for performance

That should give you some idea of whether your skills fit in with what they would consider a valid management consultant role, training and experience.

@Philip84 its not a quick answer - I suggest you chat to an agent -- In short 489 is a Temp Visa , work sponsored I think, becoming harder and harder to get,

190 state specific Permanent Residency Visa

189 National Permanent Residency Visa

Hi F1velkaw

I work for large consulting firm in RSA. I actually handed in my assessment to Vetasses for assessment about 2 weeks ago. I handed in my CV, reference letter from my exec and  qualifications. What did you all hand in? Did I miss anything ?

Why did you go the 489 route? I am applying 189.

Hi

I have not handed in yet. My agent is scheduled to talk to VETASSESS next week about it. My qualification is not in commerce (MA in Psych with a niche specialization) but highly related to my social sector consulting, so we are exploring that before I submit. I also don't work for a large firm, but a boutique that specialises in public health (prior to that it was public sector).

I haven't heard of anyone who had applied, so went through an agent to do it with me.

hi there guys, I have 2 qualifications in commerce and been in the banking industry for the past 12 years. I have been in consulting within the organisation the past 7 of those. We applied for EOI in Oct and only the 489 opportunity was available, the 189 opened up in Jan of this year after we had submitted the visa & paid a whopping R78K for the visa so i wasn't going to forfeit and reapply for the 189.

This morning, we received our news that our 489 was granted.. so we are off to Adelaide hopefully by the end of next month!

Good luck with the vet assess, i am sure it will go well if your daily tasks are closely aligned to the occupation.

congrats on the visa and all the best for the future.

Thanks for the well wishes. I work for a consulting firm. Have been for last 10 years. All I was worried about is my designation on payslip says regional manager. We have been broken into regional areas where we service our clients. I just have a dual responsibility to manage team and clients.

Keep in touch and see you on the other side

I have the same issues - my job titles are all over the place and specific to the industry. I have everything from Manager: Data, through to Strategic Information Analyst

Congratulations - that is amazing news! Do you mind if you do your points breakdown - I see the 489 is 90 points for South Australia with MC 😮 ? I am surprised they took the internal consulting, I was under the impression that it was external advisory. I guess phrasing really helps the vetassess app!

Hi , wondering if you could advise as I seem to get different answers from different agents as to whether I can apply for management consulting visa I have a strategic management honours degree and I currently work as a business analyst in a bank looking at customer profitability analytics and business performance management so I constantly work on projects within the bank to improve customer profitability. Unfortunately My title is a bit misleading. Do you think I do you think I would be successful in applying for the 189 visa for management consultant and additionally could you please recommend an agent well equipped enough to help my application. I have 3 years work experience and all three were at the bank.

Hi @Lemon

Management Consultants are seen to be staffed/hired out (Think McKinsey, Bains, Boston/Deloitte etc), where as internal strategy is related to Org Methods (ANZSCO Code 224712 ). My agent has made be go out of my way to show that I have been hired out at a rate, and have done no internal work within the company. Basically you need to prove you are staffed for profit at external clients.

Org Methods Analyst is not on the 189 list

You can spend about 200 AUD on a call with them, much cheaper than the actual assessment

Just to add - here is the VETASSESS definition:

Management Consultants usually work as independent consultants providing professional expertise and advice to various organisations, for a consultancy fee. Management consultants provide external advisory services.

@Lemon if you have any questions please reach out

Hi,

1. Can someone recommend good migration agent/lawyer with experience with Management Consulting skill assessment?

Also, can anyone respond to me following question.

2. I work in a massive organisation with 6000+ employees in its commercial advisory department. We provide strategic advice and consulting to executives of different departments within our organisation who has nothing to do with our department. what are my chances of getting skill assessment approved under the Management Consultant stream?

Thanks in advance.

Having been through the process, I had to go out my way to prove that my clients were external. Internal clients is the occupation of Org Analyst. For a positive assessment I needed that word "External Paying Client" on all my employer references.
