Husky
Very grateful that my daughter was accepted into her first choice of degree in the first round of offers (16 January). She is now enrolled at Deakin University starting with an orientation end February and is very excited. As we have permanent residence visas (190), she qualified for a CSP (commonwealth supported place), so the government sponsors a large proportion of her studies and we are paying a student portion which amounts to +- 25% of the total fees. How fantastic is that? The purpose of this post is to provide a brief outline of the process we followed and to say that you are welcome to send me a private message if you'd like more info. 1. Start looking into different universities and courses to find a match to your interests and career aspirations. Check the minimum entry requirements and fees. Email questions to them if needed. 2. Register with the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (deals with all tertiary institutions including universities, TAFE and colleges) in around August - www.vtac.edu.au 3. Complete all the relevant forms and upload required documents. At this stage you will not have any results to upload. That's ok. Make sure you register as a year 12 applicant. The website is very easy to navigate. 4. Select between 3 and 8 courses (e.g. degrees at the same or different universities) in order of preference. Where possible, select courses with codes ending with a 1. These are CSP courses which permanent residents are eligible for. 5. Upload prelim results once received and then final results early January. We just downloaded this from the internet on 3 January and uploaded to VTAC. So we did not have to send the original matric certificate. Australia does recognise the Grade 12 South African NSC, which all matrics get whether educated in a government or private school. 6. Wait for your offer. There are various rounds and as far as I understand, if you meet the entry requirements, you will eventually get an offer. Once you get an offer, you need to enrol for your course and pay. We had to pay for the first semester (50%). She received her welcome pack, journal and orientation schedule in the post 3 days later ..... Hope this is useful. Note that this only applies to Victoria.
