Ta2Bryan
Hi all. We submitted our EOI yesterday evening. Our main applicant is my wife. My preamble: I had lumbar deconstruction surgery May 2015 after a severely ruptured disc. No disc replacement, no fusion. I pretty much function fine, but we are worried what impact this may have on our application. At the time the Neuro said there exists the possibility that I may need a fusion later (I was 40 at the time). My question: Has anyone had a similar operation prior to Visa app, and how did it affect the process? I have made an appointment with the Neuro in 2 weeks time for check-up and a report to submit with the Visa app. Thanks in advance!
1 Tntaglia
We did our medicals yesterday, and my husband has a similar issue to yours. He had a herniated disc and had a micro-discectomy in 2001, and then reinjured the site in 2015. He has since had 3 admissions (one for pain management, one diagnostic for a CT myelogram, and one rhizotomy). At the moment he is on pain meds and getting physio as management. The doctor (dr Cobb in Rosebank) did not regard it as significant at all, he did not note it down for our medical. So my guess is that you're going to be absolutely fine. They are concerned about back stuff if it is likely to need an op soon (which would be if you have neurological issues such as loss of feeling in your feet) or if it impedes your ability to live or work. 0 Husky
Hi @Ta2Bryan I don't believe it would have a large impact. They are mostly concerned with HIV and TB. Nothing wrong by being prepared with a report from your neuro. You would discuss this with the doctor when you go for your medicals. I am actually in bed following a decompression and laminectomy last week. Did happen post visa approval. Very frustrating as I'm supposed to be packing ... Hope all goes well. Sorry to hear Husky, I feel your pain. We moved house the month after my op. Just listen to the Doc and your recovery will be quick, I have a friend who was too tough and ended up under the knife 3 months later again. Thanks for your input.

Ah Thanks @Tntaglia, your answer was very helpful in easing one of my fears. Good luck with your process!
