Graceville State School and Sherwood State School

Hi,

We're considering a move to the Chelmer/Graceville/Sherwood region for the new school year.  The houses we like mostly fall into the catchment areas for either Sherwood State School, or Graceville state school.  Our children will be in year 2 and prep.  Any feedback on either of these schools would be greatly appreciated, as well as the suburbs themselves.

Hi Cole - We are nearby that area. My neices go to Graceville SS. Their parents say that although no school is perfect, the girls love it there. I also believe that Sunnyskies' (on here) daughter attended Sherwood SS before she went to high school, and I believe she was happy too. In general both schools have an excellent reputation.

The Chelmer/Graceville/Sherwood corridor is highly sought after to live in. Chelmer has some particularly spectacular properties on the river. Sherwood 'high side' close to the river is more pricey than 'low side'. Be aware that traffic can be slow over the Indooroopilly bridge in the mornings because all 3 suburbs unfortunately feed into one lane. Trains are handy though.

Also check which properties flooded in 2011 as quite a few lovely homes were hit (as was a high percentage of Brisbane). If you are renting, this isn't all that important. The Brisbane City Council has 'Floodwise' reports you can pull for any address to see how high they flooded, if at all.TBH the area is so sought after, property values are back up where they were. By the way, other nearby sought-after State Schools are Fig Tree Pocket and Chapel Hill, if you need more options. Moggill Rd can be a pain at rush hour (where isn't?) Good luck! Shout if you need further info.

Hi Cole. Just checking if you made the move to the Graceville area and which school you chose?
