People don't realise this. Queensland alone is the size of South Africa, and then you add all the other states to it. And travelling is slow, the equivalent of the N1 has a speed limit of 90km/h for long long stretches between Brisbane and Sydney, the drivers get paid well, the other staff also get paid well. If someone else lifts a finger for you in Aus, you pay for it. So yes, interstate moves are expensive.
new2forum
April 2004, good transported by frasers international, landed in sydney end of July 2004. They seem em to have gotten faster. My sister in law moved goods from richards bay kzn to a rural nsw and it arrived within 3 months. Is this a question, or a statement? I don't know what the rules are in NSW but in Vic we pay part of our rego towards the "Transport Accident Charge" (aka Road Accident Fund in South Africa), so this helps to cover costs of people in motor accidents. In some other states they pay extra medical insurance for this. And of course, if you have a car and use the road then you should help maintain it. As to how the exact amount is arrived at, I don't know. And as for plumbers....? Dunno. If they charge $150 for a call out it probably covers transport and the fact that they are unlikely to be fully booked every hour of every day. So you also pay for them being available on call. But honestly, I'm just guessing. In a fair trade economy, supply and demand determine the prices. Government is something different. But at least here the processes can be checked up
new2forum
nsw: 3rd aprty insurance : $500. registration $350. comprehensive insurance: $600. total roughly $1500 per annum excl servicing & petrol. if you have a luxury/sports car then double the insurance prices. price of e tag with no SANRAL/gupta connections: priceless. there might be Lowy/Liberal connections. in a free market society the cost of labour is passed on from one sector to another. a medical/dental degree costs aprox $100K. the average tradesman charges $150/hr . the average gp may charge $200/hr. specialist will charge more. that price is passed onto the consumer hence why sometimes smiles are not fee!
