We applied in July 2018 and received a queue letter last month (August) We think that there’s still quite a few years of waiting once you get into the queue 🤔

Yes, that is likely to be the case.  They have placed applications up to Sept 2018 into the Queue - but are still at around May 2016 with regard to processing applications towards granting the visa.

Anyone heard anything about that queue moving again soon? I'm guessing we'll only see some action once the pandemic has passed a bit.

One of the issues is that given the borders and quarantine facilities are limited many permanent resident visas are not being processed.  The pressure on quarantine would be significant if PR processing in all the various categories had continued as normal.

I would like to say thank you in advance for your help with my question.

I would like to sponsor my mom for 143 visa. My parents are separated but not yet legally divorce. my question is  are  my dad's children from previous relationship will be counted towards  my mom 's "children" with respect to balance of family test?

Thank you in advance.

The Dept. of Home Affairs has published its 2020/21 Migration Program Report.

The pipeline (applications on hand) for the Parent category was 114,359 applications at 30 June 2021, increasing by 5.2 per cent (compared to the pipeline of 108,659 applications at 30 June 2020).

The outcome of the Contributory Parent and Non-Contributory Parent categories were 3,600 places and
900 places, respectively, a total of 4500 places; and

Hi all, this petition EN3366 is about increasing the quota of family and parent visa.

Please sign the petition and bring this to more people’s attention. Just one click may bring our parents one year earlier. This is the link below and please get as more people as you are able to, really appreciate it.

The migration report for migration year 2020/2021 is available at the following link

https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/research-and-stats/files/report-migration-program-2020-21.pdf

In migration year the 4500 Parent Visa Cap were fulfilled including the reduced number of 3600 Contributory Visas even during Covid-19. It would therefore appear that the shortfall on grant of Parent visas in previous 4 migration years was deliberate to reduce the number of parent visas being granted.  Refusal/Rejection rates were 6.70% in migration year 2020/2021

Outstanding contributory parent visa applications in train as of 15th September 2021 is available at the following link. 288 applications from May 2016 are yet to processed as of this date.

https://www.gm-parent-visas.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/CP-visa-applications-in-train-15-Sept-2021.pdf

The following table gives you an idea of how much longer applications may take to be processed/granted from 1st September 2021 depending on month application was originally made based on the current annual cap of 3600 Contributory Parent Visa places versus different rejection rates at 0% 5% 10% 15% and 20% (Columns 8 to 12) . Refusal rate for 2020-2021 was 6.70%.

image.thumb.jpeg.a606cb3605f6d022cedb4f89857b6bab.jpeg

So basically someone applying for a Contributory Parent Visa in August 2021 will now have to wait 16 to 17 years for their application to be processed assuming the current annual CPV CAP of 3600 places and current outstanding queue level of 65834 CPV applications.

Good news for some parents:

As of the 1st November 2021 - for the purposes of the COVID-19 Travel Restrictions - the Prime Minister has stated that they are 'looking at expanding the definition of Immediate Members of the Family' to include parents of Australians (Citizens or PR).
This is more relevant to visas other than the SC143 (given it is PR and allows entry anyway) but for those looking to visit during processing...
At the current time we are still awaiting further information on this which should also become available on the Home Affairs COVID-19 travel restrictions pages.  It is possible that there may be variations between the States depending upon policy/vaccination levels.

For those that like to follow the numbers:

SC143 applications on hand as at 30/06/2020 = 52,104

SC143 applications lodged in the Financial Year 2020/21 = 10,640

SC143 applications approved between 1/7/20 and 30/6/21 = 3892
SC143 applications refused between 1/7/20 and 30/6/21  = 112

As at 30/6/2021 the processing time for the SC143 was approximately 5.3 years

Hi All,

I am totally confused and any help is really appreciated. I have outlined my situation below.

I have submitted a 143 visa for my mum ~6 months ago. As part of the application, I had to withdraw the previous 870 visa that was in process (not granted). However, I can still see the 870 visa in her immi account with status as "Further assessments". I rang DIBP and inquired and they said it will take few  months to withdraw it as part of the 143 processing. But I received communication regarding 870 visa - requesting for medicals and biometrics.. I am really confused as what to do......

Thank you

Hi. Just out of interest, wanted to know, if we currently have a 143 visa in progress for my folks (submitted back in Sep 2016), if we wanted to instead apply for a 864 visa (onshore equivalent of the 143), would that complicate things if we wanted to withdraw the 143 to replace with the 864 visa?

Hi Pam.

There is a condition where a parent cannot apply for a permanent Parent visa whilst holding a Sponsored 870 Parent (Temporary) visa hence the reason you probably withdrew the application before it was granted to allow you to apply for the Contributory 143 Parent visa.

It is perfectly acceptable to apply for a Sponsored 870 Parent (Temporary) visa if you have have already applied for a permanent 143 Parent visa.

If you have applied for the 143 visa in May 2021 the estimated time for this to be processed would be around 15 to 16 years based on the queue of 62874 applications as of May 2021 and the current annual cap of 3600 contributory places that can be granted each migration year.

In this case the Sponsored 870 Parent (Temporary) visa might be the better option although this would limit your mum to a maximum stay of 10 years based on applying and renewing a 5 year 870 visa for a second 5 year term

Even if you apply for the Sponsored 870 Parent (Temporary) visa after applying for the 143 visa and extend this to maximum 10 year term there would still be an additional 5 to 6 year period where your mum could not remain in Australia after the 870 visa had expired whilst waiting for the 143 visa to be processed.

Based on your 143 application date of September 2016 it would probably make more sense to continue with the 143 visa. As of August 2021 there were 4661 contributory parent visas in the queue from May 2016 to September 2016. It is likely that your parents 143 visa would be processed within 15 months based on the current contributory parent visa cap of 3600 places that can be granted each year.

Sorry, just on this again. My parents have just had a 12 months 600 visa granted, so really happy about that. I'm worried that if the 143 visa doesn't come through within the 12 months that they're here for while on the 600 visa, that they'll have to go back to South Africa to wait for the 143 visa. We're very concerned that due to their age, it's incredibly stressful for them as they would be going back to no family, etc. Is  there perhaps a bridging visa of sorts that will allow them to stay here to wait for the 143 visa to come through instead of having to go back?

If you send repeated emails within a short timeframe then the autoresponce may not reply for a while.
As at today - the last update was the 1st February (SC143 Lodged/Queued up to Jun 2016)

Hi. Desperately need any help anyone in the know could offer.

Finally got my parents over on a 12 month 600 visitors visa having not seen them for over 7 years, so at long last been able to enjoy their company again.

We applied for a 143 visa for them back in Sept 2016, and just worried that the visa still may not come through before March 2023 when they'll need to return to South Africa. The problem is that my Mom is very frail and my Dad is very much dependant on my Mom as he is struggling with what seems to be early onset of Alzheimer's.

Is there any form of a bridging visa that we could apply for incase the 143 doesn't come through in time that will allow them to stay on here in Australia until their 143 visa comes through? When we set out on the 143 journey, expected waiting times were 18-24 months... It's now almost 6 years.
