Wodwik
Hi ThereMy wife is a Pastel consultant and was wondering how widespread this brand is, particularly in the Brisbane area. We've done investigations on MYOB which seems quite popular. Any comments? Wodwik
Mara
Hi WodwikI cannot vouch for Brisbane, my experience is in Melbourne.I can only advise on what I have heard. Probably around 80% of businesses in Australia are owner run, in other words, small family run businesses. I would guess that probably most of them either use MYOB or Quickbooks. MYOB is a very user friendly system, which allows you to delete your errors and redo your mistakes. This is a bonus for people who are not bookkeepers, just ordinary folk trying to keep track of their paperwork. If set up properly, I think it is of the best accounting software that I have ever used.I only know of one medium sized company that uses Pastel, and that is probably because it is owned by a South African. If your wife is a Pastel consultant, she would take to MYOB, like a duck to water, it is that easy to use!
Dedrei
Most of our clients use MYOB and then some use Quickbooks. I only have one client that uses Pastel. Pastel is not as popular in Aus as in SA, that's for sure. Best is for her to get some training on MYOB and then she'll be all right.CheersDedrei

Sam
Hi Wodwik.I recently had to change from Quickbooks run on a Windows pc over to MYOB's Mac version AccountEdge and I find it very user friendly. It is easy to figure out but it may require patience if you have not done a quick course or training on it. I'd say about 80% of companies in Aus use MYOB and 10%+ Quickbooks. If your wife would like to see how either of these work, I'm sure you can find a trial copy somewhere. Or you can download it if you know where to look.
Wodwik
I'd say about 80% of companies in Aus use MYOB and 10%+ Quickbooks. Thanks for the replies, seems Pastel might be an uphill battle, but probably useful to consult to SMEs on both packages once she's MYOB certified. Ungerers (Tanja U)
Hi Wodwik,My husband is a Accpac consultant and it is a bit bigger then pastel and there is a huge market if she wants to do that. The company that employed my husband in aus in mel has another 3 position available and they are a national company with branches in new zealand as well.I suggest if she want to do another package she can do a sage accpac certification, she can email sage accapac in south africa and find out when the next course is. I know it is only 7 days to get certification at a cost of R5000.00 not too bad!PM me if you need any further info!
