Jeewan
Hi All Just joined the forum and so thankful to hear about the good, bad and employed. I have just received my EOI and hope to make my application early next week. A CA with Investment Banking/Corporate Finance experience. I have prematurely started sending my CV for related positions and have had 3 enquiries however I suspect discussions slowed down at the point of "Do you have your Visa?". - I have seen posts making reference to an Australian format CV. (Please can someone shed some light on this - Would you recommend a professional CV writer?- Where can I checkout this format) - Has anyone managed to secure a position whilst still in SA. - Can you recommend employment agencies I could send my CV to once I get my PR? RYLC
At your level is would probably help more to use LinkedIn to connect with people. As long as your listing has your "key words" in it then the jobs listed will "catch" your profile too. Here are some links to videos on LinkedIn: The Basics: Finding contacts in Oz:
Guest
I don't think there's anything wrong necessarily with applying whilst in SA, but the chances of you securing employment when you land in Australia would be much higher. For some companies the fact that you are not living in that particular state can be an.issue so imagine how they feel about someone not even living here and at present have no visa. Nothing wrong with networking though, remember 20% of jobs are advertised the rest is the hidden market and that's when LinkedIn can make a huge difference. Another thing that makes a huge difference is an Australian Cv done professionally. I cannot stress this enough. My husband had his done with Roland Coombs from.itouch resume solutions. I cannot tell you what a difference this CV made. You need a foot in the door and a professional CV will get you into the interview where at that point you can sell yourself.
