Which Gold Coast areas to avoid

We are moving to the Gold Coast on the 7th January 2016. We've literally only spent 2 days there for the interview purposes and haven't really had a proper look around with regards to residential areas. Hubby's new job will be in Burleigh Heads and ideally we would like to live South of the Gold Coast, but you always need a plan B (rule of immigration! ;-) ) as we might not find accommodation exactly where we want. Since we don't know the areas, is there anyone who could tell us if there are any areas you would suggest we avoid moving to? We will be renting for now and will only buy a place after a year or so.

Thank you for your time! :-)
