Changing employer on 457-Process?

Aneldari

Question

URGENT:

Hi all

If you change employers on a 457 visa, how does the visa process works? Will the new employer 'take over' the 457 visa? If so, how does that work, what would the visa applicant need to do? Or must you apply for a whole new 457 visa from scratch?

It is a teacher employed by one Catholic Education: Diocese in Qld changing to a different Catholic Education: Diocese also in Qld.

Any and all advice would by truly appreciated.

Thanks!

Aneldari

Hi Aneldari

Very basically and without knowing the details.  In order to transfer a 457 visa to another employer the new employer would need to be an approved 457 sponsor, and would then nominate the 457 visa holder for the position.

Assuming everything met the criteria the intended new employer takes over sponsorship and the 457 visa holder the remaining time period on the current 457 is transferred to the new employers sponsorship.  A new 457 visa application is not required (there are circumstances when a new 457 visa can make sense).
