Popular Post Rhino1
After a month and a half of nail biting and stress since arrival I finally got a call yesterday from my new boss saying that he wants to catch up. He did not reveal the outcome of the long selection process (employment agency pre-selection criteria and shortlisting, interviews, informal interview with executives, psychometric tests and medicals). We met for coffee and as I walked into the door he shook my hand and told me I've been successful for the position whilst shoving a good bottle of red wine into the other hand.He told me there were 86 applicants for the position, 6 were shortlisted for interview and I smoke the cigar. I am just overwhelmed at the reception and assistance we've received thus far. We are truly and honestly humbled and blessed. Everybody's story is different but I just want to encourage those still coming that you compete on a equal level with every other person here, but with the right attitude and preparation doors will open. I start on Monday at the City of Onkaparinga responsible for their parks, beaches, sport facilities, urban forestry and land care unit (ecology and marine biology). This has been a long and arduous journey for us but now we have hope and evidence of a bright new future. Blessings to all...

Tamara HDU
Congratulations! Onkaparinga is my local council. I will send you through some suggestions about how to improve things in the local area! Seriously, South Africans are just so qualified. My dentist and doctor are both South African! Brilliant news. It has become more difficult to get a job and this is great news. All the best.

Rhino1
When asked on my medical examination how much alcohol I consumed I pointed out tongue in cheek only the best red wines. The Ausies thought it was funny and decided to bring me one of the better local reds as a welcome gift...
Kanniewagnie
Well done! The biggest stress factor is the work. My husband also starts on Monday and he is so stressed about starting a new job in a new country after working for the same Co since 1997. Congratulations! rozellem
A sense of humor really goes a long way....doesn't it?I think it does. Its gives them an opportunity to see you as a regular guy who would be a pleasure to have around the office, and not too stiff and unapproachable.
Rhino1
Thanks guys for the positive feedback. Today I officially have two days of work behind the back. The reception was absolutely amazing. I've already been introduced to another South African and apparently our IT Manager is also a South African. Feels odd to have a full on Afrikaans conversation with a colleague here ;-)
