RozinOz Posted September 1, 2014 Report Share Posted September 1, 2014 Hi.As I am new to the Sydney rental market, please can someone enlighten me as to whether I am allowed to knock paintings, pictures, mirrors etc. into the walls.In South Africa, this was fine as long as you 'puttied' up the hole when moving out.I believe that in Sydney you are not allowed to knock any nails into the wall, which means that you will have bare walls for as long as you are renting?? chzaau Posted September 1, 2014 Report Share Posted September 1, 2014 Depends on your landlord. You landlord may be fine with it but at the end of your tenancy you may have to "repair" the wall. Not just a putty job, may involve painting the wall as well, using a licensed repair person.So long story short says enquire before you sign as to being able to hang pictures for instance. So you will have to match the paint. Mega hassle. We never wanted that grief. Luckily our first 3 properties had old fashioned picture rails, so just bought the hooks that go on there. Otherwise, very few properties come with zero nails in the wall all ready, so you just hang your pictures where they had theirs. There is also stick on 3M products for not too heavy pictures. Read the instructions and they dont leave any marks. In a property we lived in with zero nails, we propped the paintings on dressers and tables. Looked ok. Mikej Posted September 9, 2014 Report Share Posted September 9, 2014 We rented a new house (so there were no hooks) and the owner turned down our written request to hang anything so we lived in a house with bare walls for 4 years.
