Lynnie
I don't know what everyone is so upset about. It's not like he made a banner, signed it and stood in front of it. Oh wait....

HadEnoughofJuju
There's only one thing I have learnt about Abbott, he lies through his teeth. They aren't breaking any promises. We're paying for education and medical. They haven't cut the pensions we're just going to have to work longer and the ABC and SBS repeat programs anyway so there isn't anything to cut there. Jordy
As funny as it is, the picture is photoshopped. This is the original:
AndreaL
There is no doubt that he has gone back on pre-election promises, which is ironic given he did say in 2011It is an absolute principle of democracy that governments should not and must not say one thing before an election and do the opposite afterwards."Tony Abbott - August 22, 2011andWhy should the Australian people be hit with a levy to meet expenses which a competent, adult, prudent government should be able to cover from the ordinary revenues of government?"Tony Abbott - February 10, 2011and"No country ever got rich by increasing taxation. No country ever built a strong economy by clobbering itself with tax after tax after tax."Tony Abbott - November 23, 2011
Bronwyn&Co
Gosh he only said about 25 times that he wasn't going to increase taxes! I wonder if he knew he was lying or is just crazy or dumb, or something. I watched a debate between Abbott and Rudd several years ago. I decided Abbott was just a bit stupid/slow and bigotted and and I would never be able vote for such a person (although I don't view my own beliefs as anywhere near socialism I preferred Rudd's personality). Andrea I'm just wondering about your last comment. 'One of the biggest lies is blaming Labor for the huge deficit when in fact it is the LNP.' Do you know where we can find credible info on that? I'd love to know the truth & cut through the hype they feed us as Joe Public ? Edited May 18, 2014 by Bronwyn&Co
AndreaL
It's all in a link to the right of the link I provided above. I am not an economist, but as a lay person I understand that the deficit figures are based on forward projections for the next 4 years, and that the figures LNP used before the election and then after are different. If memory serves me correctly, Hockey upped the deficit almost the day after the election. The claim: Chris Bowen says Joe Hockey has doubled the deficit by changes to Government spending and changes to Government assumptions. The verdict: Since the election, the official forecast deficit has doubled. The economic assumptions are different from those used before the election, and spending decisions have been made that were not in the previous forecasts. Mr Bowen's claim checks out. Here http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-05-06/has-the-government-doubled-the-budget-deficit/5423392The sources for all the claims are at the bottom of the page, that is why I like fact check. What gets my goat is that they will spend $2.8 billion over the next 4 years to repeal the carbon tax, and an $8.8 billion grant to the Reserve Bank of Australia???Bronwyn, if you do a bit of research, you will be horrified to see all the cuts they have made and services they have terminated, all while continuing to spend ridiculous amounts on "Operation sovereign borders" and buying those silly planes. The facts are that up to 13 times more asylum seekers come by plane than by boat...............so is that money being spent in the right place?I also read but can't verify, that those planes will not be ready for service for 6 years and that another model of plane used by many other countries would have been ready straight away. I think it is something to do with the fact that the planes aren't yet built and would only come off the production line in 6 years, I think it takes 5 months to build one.I

I suppose it's easy when you're spending the surplus that was built up by your predecessor. LP splashed $52B in stimulus packages and government funded hand-outs! This is what we're paying back, a credit card that we could not afford! I'm VERY disappointed in that after almost a decade of unparalleled economic boom where Australia was the envy of the world, this country is now having to take drastic measures to curb its debt rate!
