Garrick
Virgin and Vodafone used to allow us to use our credits to phone internationally. Do they still? I don't know if any other provider does - I know Telstra had a landline to landline deal for $10 flat each month. As we are stuck with Telstra network coverage it's them or Aldi for our mobiles... so we use Skype to phone SA mobiles.-G
Bob
How do you find Skype while calling South Africa?Another option is for you to own an Apple product . . . . either an iPhone, or iPad or Apple laptop / desktop and for the other side to have likewise. It costs nothing (other than the data volume) to FaceTime with video, or just audio (using less Mbs each hour)I've found it great with less data needed than Skype. HansaPlease
Virgin and Vodafone used to allow us to use our credits to phone internationally. Do they still? -GYep, Vodafone do. Both international talk and text is included in my allowance. That was a deal-breaker for me not moving to Optus or Telstra - 100 plus text messages a month to SA would cost a bomb. Garrick
How do you find Skype while calling South Africa? My wife seems to be happy. She's been using it for a few months now. I'm sure if it wasn't ok I'd have heard about it. -G
simonisjf
Hey guys. We are moving over on the 30'th of May so trying to do as much admin from this side so long. We will be going for Amayasim, which uses Optus's 4G network. Boost seems to be limited to 3G only. The plan is $45 a month, unlimited everything and 4 Gb of data. Anyone have any bad experiences with their service and with Optus in general? Dropped calls, funny extra charges etc etc..
HansaPlease
My wife just switched from Telstra to Amaysim. So far so good. Telstra coverage was certainly better - but it's expensive and if you live/work in civilisation you shouldn't have too many issues with Optus. The value of Amaysim is very difficult to beat. Anyone have any bad experiences with their service and with Optus in general? Dropped calls, funny extra charges etc etc..I have a 5Gb pre pay 30 day plan with Amaysim for $44.95 . . . . . . for the moment.Amaysim are starting to push its customers to go from a 3G network to a 4G network (powered by Optus).Of course, the costs are less competitive . . . . 5Gb on the 3G network costs the same as only 4Gb on the 4G network ($44.95 a month)The old 3G network plans are being phased out.http://www.amaysim.com.au/home?eu=1I notice that "Boost" which piggy back off the Telstra network and operate on a 3G network, have gone back to providing 3Gb a month (instead of only 2Gb a month) and also are giving a whopping extra 1Gb every Sunday, over and above the regular 3Gb a month. That is potentially 4 Sundays = 4Gb + the regular 3Gb a month = 7Gb of data on your smartphone, for only $40 a monthNow that is even better priced than Amaysim . . . http://boost.com.auMy son uses a Virgin mobile broadband modem for his internet connection. . . . . . 12 Gb for $40 a month on a 12 month contract.Best bang for buck, I reckon, but it only provides wi-fi for your devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops)http://www.virginmobile.com.au/mobile-broadband-plans
