Popular Post HadEnoughofJuju
19 December 2012, I was standing in the kitchen of our recently renovated house that we had spent a lot of money on because we figured that that's where we were going to grow old and die one day because no matter how hard we worked we never seemed to get ahead. I had given up checking my email for the notice of the visa grant because it was nearing Christmas and I figured that things would slow down and only start moving again in January. That morning at around 5am I picked my phone up saw I had emails, put it down and rolled over and went back to sleep. About 2 hours later I picked it up again and decided to actually read the mails this time and there it was, the visa grant notification. That's what got me into the kitchen so fast and onto the laptop to check. The road to getting the visa at the time seemed hard and unforgiving and there was a lot of uncertainty in the mix. We had no idea of where we were heading, whether or not we would find work and if we would be able to start our lives over again. On 31 December it will be nine months and I can only look back and say thank goodness that we did it when we did. We have done more, seen more and bought things that were simply out of our reach in South Africa. When I consider what I have been able to provide for my daughter and that we are now living completely debt free, I can honestly say I don't regret the move a single day, the only regret is not immigrating sooner. Yes we miss our families back in South Africa but that's it. I miss nothing more than that and I am happy. We are happy, my daughter is doing exceptionally well at school and has adjusted better than we could have ever hoped for. For those of you starting the journey or waiting for the visa, it can only get better. For those of you that have just landed or only been here for a short while, put your heads down, work hard and enjoy life, it does get better with time.
