Robyn3
So I thought it would only be fair that I introduce myself and not just sit on here reading without participating!I am 23 years old from Cape Town, currently busy with my PGCE (Foundation Phase) and a school learnership beginning next year. I'm hoping to make the move over in the next few years I'm thinking that it's best for me to get some teaching experience here before coming over? Or is it best for me to come over as soon as possible even without much experience?Thank you to all the teachers (and every other member of course) here in SA and those that have already arrived in Aus - the wealth of information that you have all posted (and will continue to post) has been so helpful! I've spent a huge amount of time glued to my screen researching...at first I felt completely overwhelmed but now it's all coming together (sort of).I am going to apply for the 190 Visa and will have to see which states are sponsoring primary school teachers closer to the time. My cousins, aunt and uncle all live on the Gold Coast, but I will teach for a few years wherever I can get SS and then eventually move to the GC. My main goal right now is to start saving...a lot. There seems to be a huge amount of fees to pay as well as apparently needing cash to fall back on if you get SS?I will continue to read up on the forum and hopefully soon I'll be making my way to the land of OZ.Robyn

I want to make the move over as soon as I have saved enough...it's definitely hard work having to cut back on "living" in order to save, but it will be very well worth it in the end to be given an opportunity to start a new life in such an amazing country!Thank you for the welcome!

LadySnoo
Good luck with saving. I can give you my 2 c , being a foundation phase teacher and being skills assessed now. Firstly it seems that they needs 3 years teaching experience ( please check this with an agent) , or at the very least that is what is seems to be because they asked for proof of this. I stand to be corrected. Also at the moment foundation phase teachers are only getting in via ss for WA , we are only on their csol list. This may change of course when you decide to apply. It's great to have youth on your side and having family to support you when you get there.

The Aitsl application form states that one needs a minimum of one years experience? This is what I've read and what I've been told but I stand corrected. Yes, I've seen that WA is sponsoring for primary school teachers which is great...I'll take any state just to get into Oz!

AlBrough
Welcome and good luck. As far as experience is concerned, it may help in finding a job over in Oz, but you must have completed 3 years postgrad before it will have any effect on you EOI points. Currently Queensland (Gold Coast) is only open to Secondary School teachers on a 190, but these change from time to time. http://203.210.126.185/dsdweb/v4/apps/web/secure/docs/4654.pdf. Robyn3
Thank you Lynnie & AlBrough!! The only thing that would make me stay in SA longer is the need to save more. I think I'll be okay points wise as I need to get a high score for the Ilets anyways for teaching which will push my EOI up...hopefully. Would love it if Queensland opened up for Primary School Teachers but in the end, I'll be grateful to be anywhere in Aus! Do the state migration lists change once per year? HadEnoughofJuju
P.S. Make sure you get all you year books detailing what subjects and content you studied as well as a full set of academic transcripts as soon as you finish and make sure that you ask for all your documentation to be in English.
