Hi All

So my wife and I have just started to look at our options and it all boiled down to Australia. So upon further investigation the google machine spat out this forum. Now please take note, I am not a particular fan of forums... I decided to have a read and see whats up.

For the past 2 months I have been reading almost each and every post on this forum. Some boring, others... well... VERY boring ( :whome: nudge nudge, wink wink). I have to say that I am absolutely amazed at the people on this forum. In my mind this is what South Africa was like. This was the kind of people I wanted to surround myself with.

I have seen the most generous people, honest and always ready to give a helping hand. Thanks to a lack of vocabulary I am in "awe". This is not the best word to describe this feeling inside me. I am at a loss for words. Literally.

I cant wait to get the process going. I don't even care about all the admin and schlep that goes along with it. There has to be some rain before we can appreciate the sunshine!

Anyway, I am a new member and am really looking forward to getting to "know" all of you.

Little more about me:

I am a high school science teacher and my wife is a lawyers. We have only been married for 4 months, but we are looking at our options (as I said). I am 26 and hopefully will reach the "Land-down-under" before I hit the THREE OH... Thats (30)...

Hempies, I am not a fan of the "typical" forum myself, where people tend to be self righteous, judgemental and confrontational.

But this forum is not your "typical" forum, so prepare yourself for a new forum-experience :) From what I have seen so far, people here are focussed on being helpful and supportive in a decent and respectful way. I have not seen a single "typical" forum entry yet.

So so welcome!! This place is great! Here you can ask questions without it being a "dumb" question. Here you'll get very smart ;-) and meet great, NO awesome people and make life long friends!

Good luck with the journey ahead! I posted a thread under employment tips quesries etc. About the process of coming over as a teacher. Not sure on whose skills are you coming over on.

Anyway! Enjoy, good luck and keep us posted!

I see you live in Cape Town - so do we (Northern Suburbs), so feel free to PM me if you'd like a nice chat with coffee.

hi and welcome

you will find that this is more than just your traditional forum - this is a family of migrants who support and truly care about eachothers journey

i think what really bonds us is the fact that we are all feeling or have felt the same emotions/frustrations/relief etc

so we can relate to eachtother where no one who has not gone through this can - not even our closest family members

so take a deep breath - you have come to the best Google search result - and ask away or just rant and vent during your journey :stretcher:

Welcome to the forum

I have to say that the spirit of giving and camraderie is one aspect that separates this forum from many others and is why so many people devote their time to making the whole move from start to finish, far smoother for the next person. Our ethos is to pay it forward.

I hope that you feel supported by all as you progress your journey.

Hi there Hempies, welcome to this amazing and awesome forum. I also wasn't a forum type person but this place changed me. This is the first forum I have read where people really want to help and not just show off with how much they know.

Good luck with the rest of the process.

Love reading posts like yours Hempies. We've certainly come a long way since we decided to get this special little cyber space going back in 2006 and I'm so proud of how the members have all formed a close family-like bond and are committed to paying it forward.

Good luck with your journey!

Ajay
