Good day Forum members. I would llike this take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Martin Liebenberg, and, although my wife has been a member for some time, I have decided to join myself in order to make sure that my side of the story is told.

I am 43 years of age, live in Rustenburg, North West, and I am employed by Impala Platinum as metallurgical engineer.

The reason I have decided to join this particular forum is to enable me to learn a little more about life in Australia, and to gain any insights into how I am able to make the transition from South African to Australian a little easier (so if anyone knows anybody at Home Affairs that can sort out my unabridged birth certificate, I would really appreciate it!)

Anyway, I am looking forward to meeting like minded people, and hope that I can make new friends that will assist me in my decision to take the plunge and move down under.

Hi Rikamarie,

Thanks, I am not sure whether it is luck or Devine intervention that one needs. Apparently I have not been born. I tried convincing the tax man of this, but that is not going well either.....

Strange that so many of you are struggling with getting the unabridged birth certificates. We used home affairs in Stanger and got them within the said time (approx 6 weeks).

Hope that my optimism carries me through the wait for the unabridged marriage certificate!

Welcome to the forum

Hi Martin, welcome to the forum !! Well, you're typing here and you're married ... so I guess reason goes you must have been born to do all those things ??? :whome: There is a lady in Pretoria somewhere, that often helps people out with such or kindred dilemmas. We tried but could not find the lady's number, but if we remember correctly, it was a Mrs. Van Niekerk. We struggled for more than a year to obtain our baby's unabridged, she sorted that out in 10 minutes ... she must be some kind of a miracle herself !

Thanks Alida. If you have any other information regarding this lady that might help me trace her, I would really appreciate it. I must admit, this battle is making the decision to stay a little more difficult.

This is an oooold number I filed with all my other "Oz tips" so Im not sure if it still works, but give it a try! She helped me tremendously...try to phone just after 7am, or before the day gets busy

Welcome to our part of the world....hope you get answers to all your questions here!

Somewhere on the forum someone once said "I would rather be poor in Australia than rich in South Africa" and believe me, I would say that is definitely my opinion as well.

Hi Martin

Welcome to the forum.

How are things going in your little part of the world? I have family here who once lived in Brits so I hear there have been a fair few job losses on that side too.

I hope you get your documents sorted soon and can progress with your application.

Good luck.

Hi Martin, welcome to the forum. You have definitely come to the right place for information. We have been here for almost 4 months now at it was worth it.

If you do a search here on the forum for "DOH" or "Home Affairs" you should find a couple of post which have several contact numbers and email addresses.

I hop you find what you are looking for here in forum land :ilikeit:

Martin I had the same problem when I did mine 6 years ago. The solution for me was to do a late registration of birth for myself. Then submit the application for UBC together with the late registration and voila!

It was quite a funny thing cause one of the questions on the form that they ask of your mother is "complete the sentence..."I remember the occassion well because....." I mean how ridiculous. My mom had many reponses but we answered politely in the end.

It was also funny because my mom had to make the statement in front of a commisioner of oaths of which was one. So my mom made the sworn declaration to her son (me) that she gave birth to me and that she remembered the occassion well.

Hi Martin

Welcome. We also had a problem getting our unabridged birth certificate. Someone recommended last year to email the minister, of which I did and he immediately replied and our certificates were ready for collection the following week.

Unfortunately I deleted all my emails but Im sure if you search on the home affairs website you will find some email adds.

Good luck!
