Guest Jules
Hi forumites Firstly I'd like to say a big thank you to Hendie, Dedrei, Riekie and whoever else made this forum a reality. After seeing things deteriorate the way they have on the RainbowNation forum, this forum couldn't have come at a better time. I'm sure this will grow into something great and all the best of luck My name is Julie and I've been in Brisbane for almost a year now (17 Feb 2005). I'm originally from Scotland but our family moved to South Africa in 1982, when I was 13 years old, so I spent 23 years there and tend to consider myself as being more South African than Scottish. The main reason we emigrated to Australia was for our childrens' future and for a safer and less unpredictable lifestyle. The reason I joined this forum and the last one is to meet other South Africans and give advice and help where it's needed and generally share experiences. I'm looking forward to doing that on a moderated forum and hopefully making some new friends n the process Have a great day everyone Julie

Ajay
Hi Jules,We've got a lot in common! I moved to Sydney 3 months ago from South Africa and also hail from Bonny Scotland originally - from Glasgow, to be specific. I arrived in SA as a 6 year old, so also feel more SA than Scottish, but my folks are back in Glasgow now so I get to go over every now and then and see the old country We also came here to secure a better future for our kids - I have 2 boys, ages 10 and 13. We gave up a lot to make the move - but it was all material - and we are thrilled with our new lifestyle here.I'd love to keep in touch and swap stories / advice / news with you - who knows, I might visit QLD one day and we ca get together for a wee dram! Guest Jules
Hi Ajay Wow, I am from Glasgow too.. small world hey? I have an older sister in Scotstoun in Glasgow but havent been back to visit since 1999. My parents are in Pretoria but are thinking of moving back to Scotland later this year. I'd love to be able to get them in here, but it just seems out of the question at the moment, but who knows in the future..Yes it's nice to build up contacts around Australia, at some stage I would like to see more of the place and it would be great to meet up with some of them, or show them around Brisbane and environs if they ever come up this way. Well this is great.. we had the "wine'n'skinner" threads going on in the other forum and now the whisky one starting here.. I'm starting to feel at home already Julie

Guest Jules
Hi QLD Girl That sounds like a great idea, maybe when the site gets a few more members, hopefully there will be some others from the Brisbane area and we can do that. I'm out in the sticks here in Jimboomba ( about 40kms outside Brisbane towards Beaudesert) but wouldn't mind travelling to meet up with a couple of SAffers and have a nice chat. Have a good dayJulie

Carindale/Gold Coast/Jimboomba is where we originate.lets get together! Shall we take turns? I am happy to drive to Jimboomba ,and then next time to Carindale etc. Then I also see some of the area. What you think?
Guest Jules
Hi QLD Girl and Nadine This sounds great. I'm not too familiar with Carindale or the Gold Coast really but I was looking at the map and I thought of the Logan Hyperdome, its just off the pacific highway, so it would be easy for both of you to get to and for me it's about 30km through the suburbs. I have been there a few times and I know there are a couple of coffee shops in there. I can't remember the names but once we're there we could have a look. There is a general food area in the middle of the centre where we could meet up and then take it from there. What do you think? Whatever you decide it's all good to me Julie
Queensland Girl
I know the Hyperdome well. There are some nice coffee shops in the new piazza area.Okay-now just when ? I leave for SA on the 6th of March ,so we must decide.Let me know!

Guest Jules
Hi I am not working either at the moment, I would prefer to do it during the week.. weekends are just so hectic with family commitments. On Mondays I look after my 4 year old nephew so that would make that day difficult, but otherwise I am free Julie
