AquaLord
Good day all,Nice to find a forum that can be of so much use when considering the immigration into Australia. My fiance and I decided over the weekend that it has become a reality to start looking at prospects and moving overseas. We dont seem to be making headway in SA and the way the politics is going on, has given us an extra boost. We have gone from wanting to move to Cape Town to Oz.Just some background. I am 28 year old male and my fiance is 26 next month. I am currently a call centre/customer relations manager and have been in this role for about 6 years (between 2 companies). I am in the automotive glass/insurance claims environment. My fiance is a cash flow senior for a large chartered avionics company in Lanseria. She has previously been a senior at a branch of a large bank.So we hope to get to know you and learn all we can in trying to get our move and life in order. :ilikeit: :ilikeit: :ilikeit:

AndreaL
Welcome Aqualord ( sounds like a superhero name , but I'm sure it relates more to your interest in nature, conservation and sea rescue!)The best thing you can do is get onto http://www.immi.gov.au/ and start reading, see which of you has an occupation listed on the http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/ (Skilled Occupations list) and decide if you are going for a permanent or temporary visa http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/Once you have some ideas, come back to the forum with any questions you may have, we also have several good migration agents attached to this site and it may be worth an initial consultation http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php/topic/20511-migration-outcomes-australia-pty-ltd/ Stephen Dickson comes highly recommended. AquaLord
Hi all,Thanks for the welcome and information.AndreaL - you would be correct on the origin of my nick Something I am very passionate about. We have started the process in getting the correct information and downloaded many documents and information sheets off the IMMI website. I have done a pre-analysis "test" to see my entry options and I managed to pass with state sponsored visa (if I recall, got 70 points with age being my main positive). I have also found my career on the general skills document so definately making head way I think. With regards to migration agents, what kind of fee are we looking at? This is going to be my biggest concern with the idea of leaving is the financial costs of doing it.
AndreaL
I would imagine that the fees are pretty steep. If you have a straightforward case there is no reason you can't manage the visa process yourself, as that in itself is expensive. Some agents will allow you to use them for a part of the process, perhaps preparing your skills assessment. You can pretty much do the majority yourself. If you search the forum, various people have done breakdowns of the associated costs. Some agents will do an initial free consult and then you choose where to go from there. If you do use an agent, make sure they are MARA registered and do a good search for feedback.
AquaLord
Ok thanks for the feedback. I will try and explore these avenues and see what would transpire.

I find much comfort and encouragement here and when things look bleak and impossible all you have to do is come here and read through the posts and you will see that there is nothing that is impossible, with enough perseverance and determination you can achieve great goals. AndreaL
Thanks very much Chantel.Just out of curiosity. How long (average of course) has it taken everyone to get across the pond from first application?Ooh, how long is a piece of string........Since July 1st everything has changed ( a bit like a Torchwood episode) so I'm not sure people can give accurate answers. In my 5 years here I've seen anything from 5 months to 4 years, depending on what was thrown up along the way. If you really want to drive yourself insane have a look at the British expats site, there are timelines for various visa'shttp://britishexpats.com/forum/search.php?searchid=4342558DIAC has minimum standards delivery timeframes, but these are broad enough to encompass those that get visa's quickly and those that don't.You may want to sign up for the monthly Iscah migration newsletter to keep up to date with what's happening http://www.iscah.com/Iscahnewsletter169.pdfOr you can try to find out what you can from here http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/ and here, recent changes http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/whats-new.htm
