Hi, We are newbies to the site. Can't believe how much info is available about everything! Somewhere to finally get all the answers to those questions that pop in your mind at 3 in the morning :) Our 457 visa apps were lodged on the 9th July as well as the sponsorship & nomination apps. Hopefully it won't take too long to get an answer as we'd like to be on the Gold Coast by the end of August. Just joining in the "waiting game' that so many of us seem to be playing. Good luck to everyone

I've just spent six weeks on the Gold Coast myself. My youngest daughter is there, pulling teeth.

There are any number of suburbs on the Gold Coast, some more "laid back" than others.

Generally, the further away from Brisbane you go, the less commercialised and quieter the suburb is.

My daughter has spent the last 3 years in Palm Beach, a seaside suburb just below a place called Burleigh Heads, also on the coast. . . . and almost as far from the big smoke (Brisbane) as you can go.

If you like beaches, then the whole of the Gold Coast is a paradise for those enjoying swimming and surfing, much like the beaches south of Durban.

Inland a mile or two, there are suburbs that offer bigger housing blocks to live on and where shopping centres and business districts operate.

There are beautiful mountain districts inland 20 to 30 kms from the coast, that offer good lifestyle with acreage of land, such as Tambourine Mountain with its little craft shops and tea shops.

The Gold Coast basically starts from the most southerly suburbs of Brisbane and is now all housing from Brisbane right down to the New South Wales border (Tweed Heads), a distance of over 100 kms / 60 miles.

If your job is near the border, you may also like to take a look at Tweed Heads which is just inside New South Wales. The lifestyle there is very good.

Good luck!

As RAD mentioned, there are few of us going over in August and we're part of the "group". Keep IOM in mind when booking your flights. We got a good deal with them.

Thanks for the tip. Will definitely get a quote from IOM. Qantas has specials on at the moment but the 40kg is REALLY appealing :)
