Got some good news today

Hi All

Like all other in the immigration process, I feel very emotional about the whole immigration thing! Mostly depressed that it is not moving fast enough! I really do not want to be here in SA anymore and I feel trapped – like in a prison. I blogged about this, just to get some stress out of the way! But, TODAY something happened to change my view. There is serious light at the end of the tunnel.

Our PR process went very fast and without hic-ups. A quick timeline:

June/July 2010 – 3 week holiday in Australia- decide to move

August 2010 – See immigration agent

November 2010 – Skills assessment done (Software Engineer for my husband. As he says – I am just going with as luggage :P )

Nov 2010 – IELTS done and passed

Jan 2011 – NSW state sponsorship approved

May 2011 – Medicals and Police Clearance

11 July 2011 – PR Visa approved!

October 2011 – Husband and I went on a “LSD” to Sydney. We saw a relocation specialist to determine where we should stay. Had a look at several open houses. Did some serious Price comparison shopping and got familiar with Sydney!

April 2012 - Seeing that we all had to be in Australia before 13 May 2012 for our entry stamp, we had to take all 4 kids to Australia. We showed them a few open houses, did a school tour for the daughter going to high school and the rest of the time had a lovely holiday.

After the visas were approved, the big wait came … we could not do anything until our house is sold. We really can not afford Oz rent and our SA house. We had our house in the market since Dec 2011, but had very little response.

It felt that our whole life is on hold.

UNTIL TODAY!!!! …. We finally got an offer on the house. A good offer that is! Not the price we initially wanted, but a bit better than the price we were willing to settle for. It is a cash offer, so we do not anticipate any problems.

NOW we can start making plans. We were hoping to move in Dec 2012/Jan 2013 and now it looks like this will happen. I am so happy!

On Friday I was still frustrated, today I have a future!!!!

Thanks you guys. We've been waiting so long for the house to sell, that it is a very surreal feeling. Now the fun starts. I need to find a rental in the area - for 6 months. Then the packing, sorting etc. Hopefully all goes well.

great news!! Congrats. We are trying to get our house finalized to put it on the market by 1 June. We want to leave here by Dec, so praying as well that we get it sold quickly. I am seeing a LOT more houses up for sale and even though the market is not great it does seem to be improving so hopefully this is starting to be a good time to sell.

If your house is under R2mil, it should not be a huge problem to sell. Area also plays a huge part. We've had our house in the market sinde Feb last year. The house is big and the price is way over R3mil and there are very few buyers out there who has that type of money. We build the house ourselves a few years back. We waited 14 months for our house to sell, and according to the agents, that is an average time to wait for the size and price of our house. Friends of ours in Benoni sold their house wihtin 3 months, but it was under R2mil. I really hope your house sells fast and that all your plans also go quite fast and well. Where in Oz are you moving to?

Hi Chantel

Our house is in the south of Jhb, but in one of the more saught after areas (Mondeor), with views overlooking the area as well which we hope will be a selling point. Price wise we are hoping to get out around 2mil as it's also a big house with 2 flats on the property (over 2000sqm land). There is a guy just up the street who has his on for 3mil because it is HUGE and he has done so much divine stuff in it, BUT it's half finished. It will cost at least another mil to actually finish everything there so that is why I don't think he has had any luck. He is apparantly very ill so they are trying to sell but it has been on the market for a year or so now. Hopefully we will be lucky. Will be getting agents in soon to have a look and give us a valuation.

Good luck with your move

hi Miraclebabycaw

I am really holding thumbs that all goes well for you. That really is a nice area - I grew up in close by Alberton. I am sure everything will work out. It did for us and I was almost at a point of giving up. (I only see now that in my 1st post I said our house was in the market since Dec 2011 - it was actually January 2011)

I am eager to hear your story as well, so remember to let us know.

  • 5 weeks later...

I started this topic with such enthusiasm…. And now .. back to square 1. :(

The people who wanted to buy the house can not give the guarantees on the house. Every time we speak to the agent, he says that they are still waiting for the money to clear (Forex and international company finance involved).

This agent is one of the most reputable agents in the neighbourhood and I really thought that he will bring a good buyer. Now I am starting to doubt this :angry2:

I feel so down in the dumps! All I want is a given time to know I can move!!!!!

Oh well, at least the “buyers” did not say that they can’t get the money. Apparently they are just waiting for it to clear, but they can’t give an estimate on the time?

I am holding onto a little bit of faith that the sale will still go through

Just keep your eye on the target and have faith, think like a guided being, the road may bend and even go into deep valleys, but the destination is always clear in your mind. :-)

UGH Chantel that is so frustrating. Maybe it's an inheritance or something that they are waiting on? I know I inherited money from my Aunt in the US a couple of years back and it took forever. It was supposed to come through in the November/December and only finally came through the following March or April I think it was. Hoping that it will all be sorted for you guys soon!!!

Blessings

Shona

Bugger! I sincerely hope their money comes thru any day now and that they still want to buy. Hang in there Chantel. These things happen for a reason. Maybe there is a particular reason you need to be in SA for a bit longer. Try to tack a big step back and look at your situation from the outside looking in. It may help you gain some philosophical perspective.
