Hi there

Got AWESOME NEWS tonight . . . my brother, wife and his newborn are coming to visit :ilikeit: :ilikeit:

We are planning a trip to Canberra from Melbourne, where they will hire a car and carry on to Sydney and Brissy etc BUT

I need help.

I am looking for cheap self catering accom in Canberra for 3-4 nights. Gotta sleep 6 and fit a cot

Can any Cranberries help me on this???

I have been on the internet but not finding much that can cater for that many ppl

Try Canberra Motor Village.

We stayed there when we arrived. It small but cheap ( comparitively) and clean. It is also close to the city but set as if it is in the bush!!

Serendipity, not sure if you have checked out the following website:

http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/act/act-canberra/canberra?numNights=4&numGuests=6

I did Mara, along with plenty of others. I have found one that sleeps 7 and is $310 a night - was kinda hoping someone could refer me something less on budget . . . would rather spend more on goodies and sightseeing than the place where we close our eye for most of the time

$310 per night for a place that sleeps 7 is VERY reasonable. I seriously doubt whether you'll find anything cheaper.

I guess you could try a backpackers, there are enough of you to take up a whole dormitary. If I remember correctly they charge about $20 er person, so that would equate to $120 per night.

Good idea Mara!

The Canberra YHA have a group booking rate of $32 per person per night but that's for a minimum of 10 people. http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/canberra/canberra-city/group-enquiries/

Dickson Backpackers do a 6-berth room (bunk beds) for $99 per night for the room. I presume you'd need to bring the cot for the baby with you. http://www.dicksonbackpackers.com.au/index-2.html

Bush Capital Lodge also do group bookings but not sure of prices. http://www.canberra.ymca.org.au/services/accom/Pages/default.aspx

There were a few others which didn't look like they catered for more than 4 people per room.

You are on the same track as me here Sandra, I just dont see the point in spending over the top cash when all you do is sleep and bath :whome:

Yes the fancy hotels are awesome but if you dont intend on sitting in the room most of the time then i dont see the point.

We will be out and about most of the time so hence the reason for not being to fussy

Thanks Mrs M, will look into these. I bought a cot online last night, that way my boet wont need to carry one from Namibia :ilikeit:

Just note that you won't have the luxury of your own bathroom - these backpackers are all shared bathrooms 'down the passage'. Personally, I don't mind roughing it, but having to share a bathroom.... Hrm.

But the camp site cabins are a good idea cos those will have a bathroom. :-)

Hi

We have made up our mind when we get to Canberra we are not going to be to fussy to begin with at least so that we can look at all our options etc. Our 3 boys have been prepared that it will not be like it use to be. We will only get what is needed etc. My husband is a very good "minister of finance" and will keep to the budget come what may. And we are determined to help

Sandra

  • 2 weeks later...

If you dont mind a backpacker type place then try Victor Lodge, yes like Mrs Mupersan says the bathroom is shared, but it is really clean. I spent my first month there and it was very nice.

And they have family rooms

thanks for all the awesome replies and suggestions.

In the end - my idea of roughing it for 3 days did not happen. We ended up booking into a self catering 3 bedroom apartment.

Looking forward to our short stay in ACT.

If I had the place I would put you all up but alas our house is small. Word of advice if renting the self catering places, take photos of the condition of the place before you occupy, I mean general cleanliness and breakages because there are one or two companies here in Canberra who dont like to give your deposit back. They claim its because you left the place dirty and now they have to get extra cleaners in.
