Hi everyone,

For those of you that applied for skilled migration visas, 175 or 176, there

was an offer of having your name and details placed onto

a data base for the possibility of employers seeking suitable

candidates.

If you did agree to go onto this database, have any of you

out there had any success, or at least some

responses, before or after you landed in Oz?

Thanks

Chocolate

It is called the "Skill Matching Database",

and according to the general skilled migration

application form on the immi web-site (no. 1276),

one can add your details to this database ONLY at the

time of one's application. Seems crazy hey, one should be able

to add it at any time :-(

Hey Chocolate,

I added all my details to the database. I've been here since November 2009 and haven't been contacted once from anyone using the database. No worries though as I'm already on my second work contract. Got a job 2 days after I landed and stated the second one immediately after that contracted ended. I think it's more important that you are physically here and available immediately.

Cheers

Same. Also put my details on the list. Arrived end Nov 08, and nobody has contacted me to this point. I just did it because I was told it would strengthen my visa case, never thought I will find a job that way.

Thanks for all your replies.

As I thought, YOU have to find the job, not

like "imagine if the car you wanted came looking for you!"

I did choose that option and also included an extract from my CV in the application. This was mainly "keywords" that I suppose employers can search for. This was in Feb 2009 upon lodgement....My visa was granted in Nov 2009 and still till now haven't heard anything.

Looks like it's one of those Government initiatives that sounds good in theory but people just dont make use of it.

ps. glad it's not just me, phew.

Was of time ..... Never been contacted ... you need to rely on your own powers of making happen.

Of the many who try this I only know 1 person that this could have worked for. A person already employed but here on a temp visa was told by the employer to put details there and they would request off the database to sponsor PR.

Not many employers here even know it exists unless they are made aware, and even then most would not bother when they must place job adverts first and prove they cannot resource the talent locally first.
