Guest Larry
For the Christmas / New Year period, I went across to NZ to meet up with family and old university friends. Two of my old classmates had even flown across from South Africa for the occasion. After New Year, four of us went off to see part of the North Island. We visited Muriwai Beach, which is west of Auckland and the nearby gannet colony. - Look at the black sand. Then we continued on to the Coromandel Peninsula east of Auckland and visited the Hot Water Beach at Hahei and Cathedral Cove. Finally, we headed off for a few days to visit Rotorua, Taupo and Hawkes Bay.Click on "Slideshow" for an automated playback. Tania
The pictures were breathtaking! Just out of curiosity - the photies of Coromandel Peninsula - why were the people digging in the sand on one spot?? Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful pictures with us!Tania
Guest Larry
That is at the Hot Water Beach. - The rocks under the sand are heated by geothermal activity. So if you dig a hole almost down to the underlying rocks and let the water flow into it, you have a free spa bath!
