hello there,

I have secured PR and will be visiting a few Ausy cities in April to get a feel for where I would like to settle when we do move over for good later this year.

I'll be in Melbourne mid April and would like to know the following please:

1. Whats the best way to get from the airport (domestic from Perth) to the City centre? bus, train, shuttle etc?

2. Can you recommend a decent hotel (<$150 a night) in the city centre within walking distance from restaurants and pubs

3. Does melbourne have a travel pass for 3 days

4. I am after some employment agencies specialising in I.T. recruitment. Any web sites?

1. There is a bus that will take you to Southern Cross Station in town. There is no train. There are shuttles. Google Tulamarine (spelling?) Airport Shuttles.

2. Just you? You could try Darling Towers...not sure of their single rates in their city locations.

3. You can buy 3 Zone 1+2 passes at $10.80 each. Or just buy Zone 1 passes if you're not going out of the city.

4. Lots. LinkMe, MyCareer, Seek - all job search sites. Alternatively, you can browse those sites, and get contact numbers of agencies off the adverts.

-G

PS. Your 6 month driver's license window time starts the day you pass through customs. FYI.

Hi there,

1) Skybus – it takes you from the Airport to Southern Cross staion for $20 – can’t remember how long it took, but it’s not longer than half an hour.

2) I see there’s a deal for Oaks on Collins for $119 to $139 on wotif.com.au – can recommend this one - it’s basic but modern, clean and comfortable four star, I think. Any of the Oaks Hotels are similar prices and similar quality and are close to everything. (Oaks on Lonsdale, Oaks on Market...). There are also a couple of Travelodges for between $107 and $150. Can’t go wrong for the price.

Thats 6 months from activation of your PR - Basically the clock starts ticking the moment you walk through customs for the 1st time, they not interested if its just a passing visit or your big move.

All the best

What is the implication of this 6 month period?
