kangaroo
Here's the article in The Age: Melbourne remains No. 3 for liveability "Ranking 140 global cities on 30 criteria covering stability, healthcare, culture, environment, education and infrastructure, the think tank of The Economist magazine gives Melbourne a score of 97.5 out of a possible 100."Well done to Oz in general with overall 4 Australian cities in the top 10:Melbourne - number 3Sydney - number 7Perth & Adelaide - tied at number 8"Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, was judged the most unliveable city in the survey..."..."The unit highlighted the poor scores of cities hosting upcoming sporting events. Johannesburg, home of the 2010 soccer World Cup, ranked just equal 92nd with a score of 69.1 - the same as Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the main hosts for the 2014 World Cup." kangaroo
Good thing for Melbourne they don't include the crappy weather over there else Perth would have climb some and the Mellies drop some...good on ya Melbourne! How good it is that 'crappy weather' is in the eye of the beholder. Give me Melbourne's 'crappy' 4-seasons-in-one-day weather any day.
AReyeP
Melbourne was always number 1 in the Economist survey, but in recent years Vancouver and Vienna pipped us.And yes, Sydney ARE heated rivals Every film on Aus shows their damned coat hanger bridge and Opera House, like they're the only things Aus has of note ... Sydney has the landmarks, Melbourne has the culture. Well, OK, a Sydneysider will disagree but that's bloody Sydney people for you ... can you can tell I'm a Melburnian? Anyone of you who's been to both Sydney and Melbourne would notice there's somewhat of a cultural difference. It's always been that way. We tend to sneer at each other but it's more of a friendly rivalry ... if they were in any sort of deep trouble we'd be the first to help and vice versa.
