What a wonderful gesture jimmip! Sorry cannot help you with in's/out's, but hope it does not set

you back to much......if it is to much $$$, maybe just buy her a little 'second hand runner' to use

and it is there for you when you go over for a holiday.

Good luck!

Isn't it easier just to buy a car there, rather than bring one over from here?

Hi Jimmi

I love this idea and would do some investigation if I was in your place.

I remeber about 6 years ago in the Star motoring there was an article from a repoter who worked out he could buy a Toyota Corrola (Made in South Africa) and send it back, pay all the duties etc and save R15 000 or so. My mother in law had her VW borrowed by an affirmative shopper and then bought a used Getz for R140 000. We had just bought a new one for $16000 or so. The ex rate was about ZAR 5.5 =1 AU$

I remember not too long ago someone on the forum, (sorry, I forgot who, but I think it might have been Sean Udal), posting that he bought a Tuscon in Oz for close to what your mom paid for her used Getz.

That's what I did. Sold my big cars, and bought Chev Aveo to drive around until house vis sold. Plan is to leave it for my Mom in Laqw to use, and then will have something to drive around when we come visit.
