Can someone give me some advice as to what to wear when going for an interview. I'm in the accounting profession, do you wear a suit or will a tie, long shirt & smart pants do?

Kind regards

really depends on the company. some prefer a more relaxed style in the office. others prefer to be as professional as possible. generally depends on how much contact they have with the general public.

usually, wearing a suit, can make you appear to be trying too hard. 99% of the time. smart pants, shoes, and a collared long sleave shirt are more than suffice.

Where in Australia is the interview for?

For an interview, I would recommend wearing a suit. Rather overdress than pitch up not wearing one and getting frowned upon.

In Sydney it will definitely be a suit and tie with business shoes.

i would go with a suit and tie. i've participated in interview panels to recruit graduates for our firm and frankly i've never heard anybody judge a candidate as "trying too hard" because they dressed smart - i have however seen candidates dropped because they didn't look the part.

play it safe, dress your best.
