Hi Everyone!

My name is Helena and my husband is Andro. We live in Rawsonville (close to Worcester) near Cape Town. My husband has his own company in Worcester (financial services) and I am a full time student studying Equine Massaging. We have 2 lovely doggy children, Simba & Scoeter.

We are planning a LSD trip to Oz in March for a few weeks, have not booked anything yet but are very excited!! Will really appreciate it if you guys could give some advice as to where we can stay (with our SA rands hehe) and what we must see and do when were there. Have never been there and we really want to check out the place.

We live on a wine farm (it's not ours...unfortunately) and only rent our house. We are very privelaged, it is soooooo beautiful! We have the breede river running a 100m from our house, swim in it every summer! If we ever come to Oz we would like (and we know it might not be possible) to live some where simmilar. Or let me put it to you this way, we are not really city people even though both of us use to live and work in Cape Town Central. Andro use to work for Investec before doing his own thing. The main reason it is so difficult for us to make the final decision (even though our hearts are already in Oz), is because then my poor husband must start all over again. He's not too keen on working for a boss again (hope I don't sound snobbish saying this?! :whome:

Anyway, I'm getting side tracted, we have not even looked at points or anything, we would like to though, and would appreciate it if people in the Cape Town area could reccommend any good agencies for advice and also to see If we will qualify.

We don't really know what crime is like here in the country side. The people here just drink a lot and fight amongst each other, BUT (and this is a BIG BUT)...we don't even watch TV or Carte Blanche anymore, because it upsets us so much!! And everytime we read the Sunday Paper I just want to get on the next best plane! We are also very scared about and uncertine of what's going to happen after the 2009 next elections!!!??? Don't know if I'm allowed to mention Political stuff on the forum, but I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.

Looking forward to chatting to you all!

Have a nice day!

Helena :whome:

Hi Helena

We visited the Margaret River area a few months ago. It's about 3 hours drive south of Perth. It's said to be the best wine farming in Western Australia. There are some lovely towns in the area and it has a stunning coast line which is very popular with surfers.

I'm not sure what job prospects would be like for your husband but it might be an area to visit on your LSD.

Hi Yvonne,

You are FAST!! Thanks for you reply, I will definately tell my husband about it and also try and hop on the net to see if I can't get any pics. What do you do in Oz? Family? Reasons for leaving SA?

It would be nice to hear your story.

hi helena!

Hello Helena,

Baie welkom by ons fabulous forum :ilikeit: .

Hi Deidre,

Lekker naweek!

Groete uit Rawsonville!

Hi Helena

Ek dink dat julle n baie goeie bestaan in Australie gaan he. Die ouens is perdemal!

Ons het ook nou al geleer:

"the meaning of poverty is being a horse owner"

Hello Helena - I was just reading through the thread and two things jumped out -

One, I also used to work for Investec (Pretoria) until Nov 2004 when I left and started my own business. Tell your husband I know how it is, looking at job prospects again is a bit daunting for me too!

Two, why would 'Springbok' liken Adelaide with Bloemfontein? Hey Springbok, have you ever been to Adelaide? Because I've been to Bloem & Adelaide and I cannot see much in common. Where are the winelands and the miles of beautiful beaches in Bloemfontein? Where are the mountains and the koalas? Where is Kangaroo Island? :)

You have got me there.

Helena, consider do yourselves a favour and consider Adelaide too, it's lovely there!

Hi Helena,

Ek sien jy kry darem baie goeie raad.

Dis goeie nuus vir my!!

Groete

Helena

Hi Bronwyn,

Thanks for the advice! Looked at some pics on the net and Adelaide looks lovely! Will try and visit as many places possible in March.

What did you do at Investec and what do you do now?

Speak soon!

Hi Helena - I was in the Private Bank in PTA, lending for equity stakes in companies, and also basically a private banker to HNW. I specialised in aviation finance for about 5 years before that and did quite a bit at Investec too. I miss it, but not the stress factor! Now I import containers of welding wire from China, but the exchange rate has made that a very risky business. Luckily my husband is my biggest client at the moment and I am taking it a little easy :whome:

Our whole family of 5 loves horse-riding too, and we all took lessons for about a year. Last year my husband got thrown and broke his arm badly, so we stopped, but that's a pity, I would love to take it up again...

If you come to Adelaide in March, give us a shout and we can get together. Maybe by then we can help show you around a little!

OK bye, and good luck with your decisions! :)

Bronwyn
