Hi all,

Introduction time for me.

We have been thinking about emigrating to OZ for a while but have made the final decision a few weeks ago. Now the process starts!

If there are any attorneys out there, please assist me, I have a few questions.

I am doing my LLB degree with Unisa, and should hopefully be finished with the degree when we leave SA. I now want to know:

1. My articles will be done in September 2008, so this should not be a problem;

2. Do I have to write the admittance exam before we leave, or should the degree and finished articles be in order?

3. I know there are a few subjects that I have to do in OZ regarding their administrative law ect.

Then, will I be able to stay at home for a while, until the kids go off to school, or should I look for a job as soon as possible and then later apply?

Thank you for a great forum, it has been very helpful to us in gathering information!

Hope to see you around and watch your progress towards getting over here!

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

I'm a lawyer and have been practising in Sydney for about 5 months now.

If you have completed your articles I would recommend that you write your admissions exam and get admitted in SA before you come over here. It does make the world of difference in the amount of subject that you will need to do this side and in the job opportunities you will be able to peruse. I got admitted on the day I left SA and i able to practice as a lawyer 3 here.

Please find below the link to the law society of New South Wales if you want to have a look at the requirements: http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lpab

I must warn you that the LPAB (legal practitioners admissions board) is in the process of revising their requirements resulting in applicants doing more subjects than in the past. If you need more assistance please send me a message and I will try to help you.

Regards,

Marina
