Chez
Hello all! Have just discovered this site and so encouraged to see others in the same position as us and asking the same questions! We are a family of 5 with 3 boys aged 17, 14 and 10. We have been thinking of emigrating for a while and went over to Perth in March. We have family there - my husband's brother and family. We liked what we saw, although being a true Capetonian, no place is as beautiful as Cape Town! It has many other redeeming factors though!I am a nursing sister, but have not been practicing for the last 6 years which posed a problem, being that we need to go over on my points. I sent all my nursing documents to the WA Nurses Board and they have basically approved them subject to successful completion of a bridging program. I have the option to do a 2 month refresher program in Perth. Not wanting to leave my family for 2 months, I have opted to apply for a 456 business short stay visa as it allows me into Oz to do the course and bring the family along. The downside is we are not allowed to earn an income for the period of the visa(3 months). I am not overly concerned as it allows my husband time to look around for work while being available for the kids until they are settled.(Sounds like he is good househusband material. Not!) While doing the course I will apply for a 457 business long stay visa onshore. A little different - hope it works and we have no hiccups! We have to sell up first though, so don't know if we will be going in time for the September course this year or delaying until the January course next year. It is very exciting and scary at the same time. One good thing - all 3 boys are very positive about going. I don't think I could handle an unhappy teenager under such circumstances.Looking forward to sharing the experienceChez
