So many questions!! Oh well - gotta start searching here!!
Gina- AG
Hi Simon and wife. Are you looking at a Permanent Resident visa or Sponsorship? If it is PR, I will be happy to help with what I can. Start ASAP!!
lyall
Hi Simon,Welcome to your forum family!!First get your unabridged birth and marriage certificate, passports and book your english language test.By then it will be quite a few weeks down the line and you will know more about what your options are from reading this forum...there is somebody doing literally every possible thing that can be done while moving to australia...some have had it good, most of us have had a tough time somewhere along the line, but the friendship and camaraderie of the forum has helped us all along...JUST ASK AND ASK..! Most of us have asked the same questions over and over, feel really dumb about some of the things I asked before I knew what was going on, so dont be shy....you can always blame your wife!!even through some silly arguments we all still stand together in one resolve..to get a better quality of life for ourselves and our loved ones.Good luck and keep reading and posting..we all love to read each others stories...Lyall
SimonB
Hi allThanks for the welcome!Regarding the PR, while I have registered and done the "test" at www.liveinaustralia.com and certainly have the points, I simply don't have the $4900-odd to make the application for an independent-skilled visa. I think I will have to rely on a sponsored 475. Then again, I might have misunderstood the process.I'm spending the weekend prepping my CV for the two jobs in Sydney and the other in Canberra. Anyone here living in Canberra?Simon
Kerry-Lea
Hi Simon and preggie wife , Welcome to the forum - you have come to the right place to have all your questions answered, but be warned this forum is addictive!Last I checked the visa app fee for th 175 was around $2000. All the visa's are expensive and so is the appliction documents - so up the limits on those credit cards and just bite the bullet! Your first priority should be getting your docs from home affairs if you dont already have them - this takes a long time and you should apply NOW. Yes. NOW. I mean, stop reading this forum and go to home affairs!Seriously - you will need passports, unabridged birth certs and an unabridged marriage cert. If you go after your baby is born - you will need the above for the little one too. It can take months to get them, so yes, apply NOW. Your best bet is to apply for a 175 PR visa. You can always put your CV out there, and if you get a 457 sponsor you can go over on the meantime on the 457 and once your PR is granted (it will carry on processing in the background) your 457 will "fall away" and you will be PR's.The long and the short of it is that the PR process is very much longer than the 457, so your own personal circumstances will also have a role to play - do you want to get out of here as soon as bloody possible, or do you want the support of your family for the birth of your child?I'm sure you'll find some answers here - keep us posted. You should be able to do the app yourself without using an agent, which is just more costs
lyall
SIMON, our 176 visa cost r14580.00 and the 457 cost R1650.00 big difference, and much quicker, so if you can get a sponsor its the cheapest and quickest, but you till need to to the 175/176 pr visa...can take up to a year, as you might have seen from some of the people hereWe tried so hard to g et a sponsor, and two weeks after we gave up and applied for a permaenet residence visa, we were offered a sponsorship...murphys at work here!!lyall

SimonB
Well well... It's been some time since I was on here. Things sat in a bit of limbo while my CV was out there and I was focusing on work here in SA.I received notification that I have a telephonic interview with an outfit in Canberra on Tuesday morning. I haven't done anything further regarding visa's or anything as I didn't want to get too involved until something came up. But now it all seems so VERY real.Wish me luck on Tuesday
Karen-in-Brisbane
As far as I know - and I stand to be corrected by those more in the know .... Even if you get a temp visa at a cheaper rate, you still have to apply and pay for the permanent visa and it costs more if lodged in Oz. Plus you do not get medical benefits when on a temp visa and that may be important with your child... So my opinion is get moving on getting all the docs together and apply for PR straight off..... SAVE and keep your bonus if lucky enough to get one.... Borrow money... Whatever you need to do. This is a costly business so not for the feint hearted... It is PCC, Unabridged birth and marriage plus recognition of qualifications and IELTS (which alone costs R1900...) so take some time as you are in for a few heavy expenses.... Is this the case?Just regarding salaries... the scale of the job under question is around $110000Given we will be a single income family with stay at home mum, we've been browsing cost of living issues - and looking at the two biggest (usually - property and cars). Looking at house rentals at around the $350 to $400 per week, there seem to be many options in terms of what we are used to. We will also be looking at a single vehicle for the two of us and probably a motorcycle. We'd looking at financing about $20k for a car. Are we in the right ballpark with the salary in question? There are going to be many (possibly stupid) questions, so forgive meSimn Edited September 15, 2008 by SimonB
SandraDee
Just regarding salaries... the scale of the job under question is around $110000Always a tough one to answer. The average wage in Aus seems to be around $70k per annum. A good friend and immigration agent told me that as long as you earn $100k you should be comfortable as a single income family.....obviously though we all have different lifestyles!! Alida
As I understand, you will do quite well with the mentioned salary. If you go for a secondhand car, you might even get away with less than $20k. You might even be able to have only the car and no motorcycle, with the public transport that is readily available and safe.No questions are stupid, we all ask them, sometimes we forget and ask the same questions twice ! Repeated questions often brings more detailed, more seasoned answers for all of us to learn from. So keep asking and welcome to the forum-family !
