arno&caroline
I have been offered a job in Melbourne and they want me there middle to end of August if possible. My fiance and me are working through an immigration agent (Fiona Carre) and she seems to be very jacket up and on the ball (we are very impressed). The company in Melbourne's sponsorship seems to have been approved and yesterday my visa application was lodged (we have supplied heaps of documentation, but is still outstanding the odd one here and there). I am hoping that the visa will be approved in 5 to 6 weeks time, but want to hear from everybody out there how long theirs took and what they think was the reasons if there was a delay... i.e. South Africa takes 6 weeks to issue unabridged birth certificate, South Africa takes 6 weeks for new passport, the case officer want a declaration from your great aunt's brother's friend, etc.My fiance and me is very excited on the one side and "poep" scared on the other. It is easy to brag to everybody that you are thinking about moving to Australia, but it is another story to actually go through the process... In the end I think it will all turn out OK.Holding thumbs from PE... Arno and Caroline

Kerry-Lea
Anything from 2 days to about six weeks would be my opinion, judging from whats been said on the forum
SeanK
I hink it all depends on the lodging ofpaperwork and who is doing it.In our case the sponsorship, visa application and registration of my wife with the Oz Nursing Council is all being done by her agent in Oz.We just have to do IELTS,Police Clearance,Home Affairs,Transcripts and Medicals. All of which is done here

polly
Ours took four weeks after the application was sent in. If you are still waiting for your birth certificates, you are in for a long wait
AndreaL
It is an impossible question to answer as they are different every time.I have had 3 457 applications.2005- done with agent took 10 weeks2007- done on-line myself took 27 days2008- lodged on-line via agent 3rd June , still waiting, I might add that it is the medicals holding up the process I think, they were submitted to Health Services Australia on June 20th and I phoned today to see if they are processed and they said it could take 2 to 3 weeks instead of the usual 7 to 10 days!I am so frustrated. It is a pity your application wasn't lodged today as all 457 visa's will now be going through the 3 Centres for excellence from July 1, I wonder if it truly will speed them up though! So in short the answer to your question is " how long is a piece of string"
