Numbawun
Hi there allWe a family of 6 - my husband Darren, myself Cheryl, Tyra (11), Kade(9), Niam(5), and Evan(3). We in process of applying for Skilled Sponsored Regional, so will be heading off to Adelaide asap. Have booked a holiday for September (2weeks) and was wondering if we could stay in youth hostels in Adelaide - seems a cheaper option but not sure if kids allowed or wether its advisable ? Any input would be gr8 !
zoot
No problem with staying in Youth Hostels kids are definately allowed BUT the Oz Youth Hostels are not really up to the standards of the European ones it seems like they use them a lot for school tours and such like so you can pay a lot and get quite a run down place. There are a lot of other holiday type chalet's etc available which may work out cheaper when you consider instead of paying per person you will be paying per unit/chalet. The YHA in Adelaide is OK but not in the greatest area, right near the bus and train stations with all that implies. The staff are completely useless they can about cope with checking you in and out but dont expect any more help than that (ditto the Travel Desk). Check out holiday flats, caravan park cabins etc. Even consider contacting the Adelaide tourism people for advice.
Guest Bronwyn
Hi guys I recommend a caravan park for a big family, it's the best value for money and most convenient. We stayed at the Adelaide Caravan park. We rented a 2 bedroom 'luxury' cabin with 2 x 2 bunks and 1 x King Size Bed, and a lounge room. All cooking facilities and TV are there and it was clean and new. They don't really come & clean for you at all after you check in . They leave you with a vaccuum cleaner. There is a pool (too cold in Sep) and you can get free DVD's from the front office but they are old. It's walking distance to town if you have strong legs (It's North East of the City). We used their laundry extensively too. Rates are on their website http://www.adelaidecaravanpark.com.au/acp-tariffs.asp Don't be afraid to ask for a discount, it is a quiet time of year for themAnother one I know of is the Adelaide Shores Caravan Park, which has quite a good playground (I think) and it's on the beach, so you would need to catch transport or rent a car to get into town and do any admin.http://www.adelaideshores.com.au/caravanresort.htmI haven't stayed there before.Don't convert to Rands and expect your cabin to look like a R1,000 a night place, it's going to be a disappointment. It's more like a R300 place. In general I have been surprised at the standard of tourist accommodation in Australia, but try to see it as an adventure! If you would like to send me a PM closer to the time, we could meet up for a hello. Let me know if I can be of help. Bring lots of warm clothes for the kids, September is still quite cold in Adelaide.Regards, Bonwyn
