Hi All

I think i've introduced myself before but cant remember, So just in case i haven't - I m doing it again.

Also not too sure whether i'm doing it right, This is a great forum and registered a while ago but have only seriously started browsing it after my sister in law visited this weekend.

The info supplied is great, the support wonderful and insights to questions just WOW!!!! :holy::ilikeit::ilikeit:

We're a family of 6, made the decision tp relocate in December 2007. Hubby is a qualified elctrician and electronics mechanician and would have got into OZ just fine if not for his age ( 45) . Currently living in Witbank " cough cough " for those of you who know all about the pollution and smog. ( Hier hoes die mossies jou wakker) and working for large financial institution as senior manager in Corporate and Business Banking.

Eldest matriculated last year, studing IT at present. then 12 year old boy and 2 little girls of 4 and 2.

I have been onto every recruitment site possible and seems to be very difficult to obtain employment while still in SA.

Thanks again for a wonderful fourm. I think i've spent hours on it since the weekend. Definitely addictive.

Hi and welcome,

Which state are you planning to immigrate to?

We have looked at Adelaide as well as Queendland area. and is soley dependant on where we can find employment. This is the hardest part as i have sent tons of resume's to agents but keep on getting the same message - only people with working visa or the right to apply for work should apply. i am being led to believe that it is easier if i fly over and line up several appointments/interveiws with agents as well as prospective employers.

But which ever way - we are intent on relocating and will endevour to make every possible effort to get there.

Yes, that's what we've done - our agent has suggested going the business route ( visa 164) with me as the main applicant. howver i am not convinced that this is the best option and would like to persue the 457 or 175 route.

Thanks

Hi and welcome Brenda

You could also try the state sponsored route, couldn't you? You only need 100 points for that - so maybe the age thing wouldn't matter? Just a thought...

Best of luck with it all... I'm sure your husband will find a job - he's in demand!

Leigh

PS = have you looked at old posts in the 'offering' section on the forum? You might find old posts of companies offering jobs for electricians and such...

You still need to be under 45 for a state sponsored visa. But don't give up. I have just got a job offer for one of my clients after lots and lots and lots of applications...... and he is 51 already!

Thanks - We live out of town on a small holding 2.4 hectares next to the river - lots of development going on around here, but some have been put on hold due to the power and ifrastructure shortage - water connection and sewerage.

Have just read the news that Deidre posted with regards to the 457 visa changes in legislation and wonder how this will affect new applications.

Leigh - Thanks, will take a look at the old posts under offerings.

My husband definitely does not act or look like a 45 year old - he is quite a dish even if i must say so myself, thats what makes it even more difficult to accept - is that he has all the capabilities required and is a well established business owner of a building construction , project management company which incorporates electrical contracting.

We have now been told by my agent that we should look at a business visa - with me being the main applicant. My feeling is that the 457 might be a better option but am not sure.

I scored 8.5 in the IELTS test , have had my skills assessed as a Marketing Specialist although i do all the functions of a Sales and Marketing Manager but it is too costly to have my skills assessed for more than one occupation. have also been nominated as South African Business Woman of the year - 2008 ( Sounds like i'm selling myself - any recruiters out there!!!!)

I have listed my CV with several recruitment agencies and well as most banks. - Hope i can get some offer.

Thanks all , for the welcome notes - the information on this forum is invaluable and i hope that i can be of use and value ito other newcomers.

( I think ideally - perhaps i should really try hard to obtain employment with an international recruiter - i am becoming so passionate about this whole process and really would like to add my bit)

Brenda

( bit of waffling - but enjoy forum so much, that i dont want to log off )

Hi Bren

We have chatted on PM. We got a 163 Business Visa in Adelaide. I'm not sure why your agent would have advised you to try for a business visa on your name if you have a job...I thought the main applicant had to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the South African business, which has to do a certain turnover?

I understand it is very confusing when you are getting started. I would ask you the following questions:-

1) Do you have an existing qualifying business?

2) Are you both regsitered owners of the business? Whoever is the main visa applicant should be involved more (especially when you put your case forward to your State for the sponsorship request  ). Remember if you nominate yourself as the main applicant, you will be obliged to run the Australian business, not your husband. You may not be able to get a job on this side. As you will know it takes time to get a new business going.

3) The age thing is not an issue if you get State-sponsored, as the limit is 55.

If I were you I would consider a 163 Visa to either Adelaide or Brisbane (to save time). Be carefull who you choose as your main applicant. When you get here (or even before) you buy a small business (minimum $75k) or a share in a bigger business. The main applicant works at the business and puts in the 2 years before you can apply for PR. In the meantime the other spouse can get a job as soon as you land, in their field. They should be able to earn enough to keep the family going (or close to that) while the other spouse builds the business up enough so he/she can start drawing a salary.

I think I am saying that the spouse with the potential to earn more in a JOB, should get a job. The other spouse should start the business, because it could be 6 or even 12 months before you are able to draw a salary.

Obviously, I am no agent, and again, I would read, read, read, the DIAC website for all the rules and regs.

Am I as clear as mud or making any sense? :ilikeit:

Hi Bronwyn,

Thanks, Yes i am employed at one of the the big 5 ( fincial institutions ) as a senior manager. but have been involved in the running of our business as well for some time. THis is probaly why the agent said to go the Business owner route.

You're quite correct when saying this can be totally confusing, as we have can also probaly use the 475 visa option or try for the Visa 457 ( if sponsordhip obatined from a company ) or even the Visa 176

We have done most of the -- obatining passports, unabridged B/C. done IETLS, etc and are now awaiting skills assessment for Marketing Specialist tocome back from Vetassess.

Once received, we will apply for state sponsorship ( ouselves without help of agent ( Adelaide, NSW, i dont think Brisbane needs Marketing specialists yet)

While this is being done we will concurrently apply for Business owner visa and also hope that somewhere along the line we will get 457 sponsship - Are we confused or what!!!

Anything just to get there!!!!!

I am also going to OZ expo in September in JHB to see recruiters etc. and am planning a visit to OZ end Aug beginning Sept to try an obtain job offer / line up interveiws etc etc...

I wish it was more cut and dried, but at times feel very exasperated. Only the forum keeps me going as the information found is invaluable. I take it in like a sponge soaking up water and cannot wait to get in a position where i can now start providing the same for others.

I wish i had the ability, position to make a difference and really provide a solution for all.

Thanks for your input - MUCH appreciated.

Brenda
