blue
Hi EveryoneWhat a forum!, only just discovered it and it has helped answer many questions. We have a week to go before hubby knows whether he gets the job or not. We are 90% sure. If all goes well we will be in Aussie by end of the year. What we do know is that we will be based on Eastern Australia, have searched all the lovely cities but can anyone tell us what it is like in Cairns, we know it is hot and humid but anything else? Is'nt it funny how the only thought that occupies your mind is this whole Aussie move - are we doing the right thing, will we survive on the salary, schooling, finding a job for me (PA/Secretary) etc.Thanx

SHAUN / ANITA
Hi EveryoneWhat a forum!, only just discovered it and it has helped answer many questions. My hubby has to contact them for further discussions about the work and move etc. I am so excited but my hubby seems to been hesitating a bit. If it was up to me, we would be there already. The offer is for East Hawthorn, Melbourne, Victoria. If it is close by, then maybe we will bump into you guys if all goes well then we will also be there by the end of the year.I will say a pray for you guys.Anita

Camper
Cairns is a wonderful city, not big but not small. Yes summer is hot and humid but it is only 3 months then we have the best weather. currently 19-26 in the middle of winter. Outdoors is the way to go, diving is big as the reef is only a hour away. rentals are not bad and house prices are quite steep, but coming from SA any house price is steep.Quite a close knit SA community here so you will be at home.CheersCamper
Pine and Riana Pienaar
Strange how Oz can occupy your thinking and discussions.Helps to blow of some pressure and read that youre not alone though.
immi+
Hi BlueWelcome to the forum and good luck on this anxious time of waiting 2 hear. We moved to Cairns in January this year. We arrived in the hottest week in Jan, everybody complained, but still, it wasn't that bad for us. (And we've never lived in a humid place before). It is beautiful, all around you it is either rainforest on the one side, or sea and beaches on the other. Plenty of natural rock pools in the rainforests to cool down in summer. Been for a swim in the sea the other day, (this is middle of winter), and the water was lovely. We live near the beach, so every afternoon hubby, myself and little bub goes for a stroll. It feels like holiday year round! Good for kids as well.Life is very relaxed, everyone goes at a little slower pace than the cities, but hey, nothing to chase up here.To sum up: we feel lucky to be here, will not consider any other place, and hope we can meet you in person soon.PS: Roughly every month a bunch of South Africans get to gether for picnic or BBQ on the esplanade. You will meet new friends easy and quick.Again, all the best with your application and move.BB
