Nicky
Hi there everyone, I'm NickyI live in Pretoria and have been looking at going to Oz for about a year now. It is not an easy decision to make and I must say with all the regulations and different forms and visa etc. its extremely scary, not to mention confusing. This is why a forum like this is a godsend... especially since most of you have already gone through this and the information that you are giving is based on real live experiences. You're obviously a great bunch of people and I can't wait to make some friends. I'm a single parent with two kids 3 and 12, and like most of you I am looking for a better (and safer) life for my kids. I would like to move to the Brisbane area as my sister lives there... I hoping to go on a 457 visa and then apply for PR once I'm working and living in Oz. I'm an IT Support Specialist with over 10 years of experience in the IT industry so I'm hoping that I'll be able to find work somewhere in Brisbane. I have also been looking at the various job sites and will be following the advice that many of you have given here to and will apply and not worry too much about having the right to work in Oz. Hopefully it pays off.Looking forward to chatting to you all, will definitely be posting sometime soon

Ajay
HI Nicky, Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the compliments. It's good to get feedback like that! You might want to PM Rialet and Shandell specifically, as I think that they are well connected in the IT industry in Brisbane, so might have some more detailed advice for you.If you have any questions about life in general, or the 457 visa in general, feel free to post a question! Happy hunting and looking forward to seeing you around!CheersAjay
Guest Jules
Hi Nicky Welcome to the forum! Hmmm, I wonder who your sister could be... anyone we know? Julie Edited July 20, 2006 by Jules
Dreamcatcher
Hi Nicky,I hope you get a job soon, as I believe it to be so much easier to raise kids as a sinlge mother, when you have the support of the whole country. I mean in relation to the resources that they have here to help single parents, and all parents for that matter. My sister is a single parent to three kids, living in Sydney. She does not want to go back to SA at all. She just gets so much help, financial, educational, and social, it is not to compare with the life she would have in SA. As you have clearly taken note of our postings regarding 457 visas, you have the right attitude. Go get them girl!Greetings,Dreamy
chatterbug
Hey Nicky,Welcome to this forum, I hope you get all the help and support you want. I there is anything you'd like to know about Brisbane please feel free to ask, there are a couple of us that would be able to help out, but then again with a sister here already ....you'd have 1st hand insight. Have you visited before? My sister is also a single parent so I'd be very interested to hear about your experiences, in view of trying to coax my sis into considering a possible move.CheersChatterbug
Nicky
Hi everyone,Thanks so much for all the welcome notes. I'm so glad to hear what Dreamy says about it being a bit easier for single parents in Australia, especially what you say about having the support of the whole country, hearing that definitely makes me feel that I'm making the right decision. If I make to Australia I will definitely be posting my experiences here - so hopefully we can persuade your sister to move too Chatterbug and any other single parents, who like me are nervous about moving to the otherside of the world all by yourself with the responsibility of two children.I have never visited Australia before, but having a sister in Australia and reading about Australia from other South Africans that have moved there definitely makes it sound like a great place, especially for the kids.I have applied for the unabridged birth certificates and am going to jump right in there and try to get a job, so hopefully by next year I'll be posting about my move and my experiences in Australia! Thanks again for all the support and advice, it is much appreciated...CheersNicky
