Some mates for my elderly mother

Hi All

Things are finally starting to come together for us; it looks like we will be in Perth by June 08. My wife has found a job in Gooseberry Hills and I’m hoping to find something in Perth CBD before we go. We have a 4 year old daughter and a 7 year old son.

My 65 year old, or so, mother will be joining us in Perth. Now my question, is there anybody else on this forum in the Perth, maybe Gooseberry Hills area, with parent(s) or grandparent(s) of similar age? (I know this is a long shot, but I have to ask.) I’m worried that she will be sitting home alone while we are at work and school with nothing to do and no one to talk to. I’m not looking for a baby sitter or anything like that. It would just be nice if we could maybe help her make some new friends there. She is still very old school and I think it would initially be easier for her to make friends with ex-Saffers.

Anyone in a similar situation?

I've never heard of the area you are living in, but I've only been in a Perth just over a year! I do know that there are a number of older South Africans and ex-Zimbabweans at our local Anglican church - St Nicolas Duncraig-Carine. They have an active range of activities via the church, from craft groups to bush dancing.

I am sure that many of the other churches will have similar activities. Your local community centre and library will also have lots of options. In Duncraig and the surrounding suburbs there are PLENTY to do for retirees no matter what they are interested in or how active they are.
